Leading trainer Chris Waller is confident Boban will immediately re-gather the form that saw five wins from as many starts in last year’s Spring Racing Carnival despite the star miler not spelling particularly well.

Opening his 2013 Spring campaign with a comfortable win in the James McCall Retirement Handicap (1300m) at Rosehill, Boban most notably claimed victories in the Group 1 Star Epsom Handicap (1600m) before closing the memorable season with a commanding Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) triumph on November 9^th.

Questions were raised over Boban’s legitimacy as a contender after it was revealed he had experienced a less-than-convincing period in the spelling paddock.

“No, he didn’t spell all that well but he’s thriving now he’s back in the stable” Waller told TVN.

Waller also said that conditions weren’t entirely uncomfortable for the three-year-old son of Bernardini, reacting much more favourably to life in the stable.

In what already looks set to be one of the busiest years for any Australian runner, Boban will resume in this Saturday’s Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Randwick, and while quietly confident, Waller did concede anything may happen.

“He seems to have come back well” he said.

“You have to remember this is a long way from his Grand Final on Saturday but his class will take him a long way.”

Boban will need to be in top form if he is to continue his stunning run of victories, with several classy opponents also included in 2014 Expressway Stakes nominations.

Waller looks set to dominate the 2014 Expressway Stakes final field; nominating four from his own stables for a tilt at the Group 2 feature, including highly rated Irish import Moriarty, Arinosa and Sizzling.
