One of Australian racings’ best mares, the Les Bridge-trained Hot Danish is set to be sold at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in June, the star seven-year-old likely to have run her last race.

The dual Group 1 winning daughter of Nothin’ Leica Dane was withdrawn from the remainder of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival after a cut to her hind leg became infected and forced Hot Danish to undergo surgery at the Randwick Equine Centre earlier this month.

With the injury expected to end Hot Danish’s career on the track, connections have made the decision to sell the mare on the open market as they are more interested in racing than breeding.

Purchased for just $32,000 at the Inglis Scone Yearling Sale, Hot Danish has started 31 times for 16 wins, seven seconds and two thirds earning over $2.3 million in prize money.

“She has been an absolute marvel for us to own and has been a part of our lives for six years now,” managing part owner Tony Curtis said.

“We will be looking forward to following her progeny when they hit the track.”

Hot Danish’s career highlights included her back-to-back elite level wins in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick last April and the Group 1 Doomben 10000 (1350m) at the 2010 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

Her estimated value at auction is rumoured to be about $1.5 million.
