2011 Ajax Stakes Final Field – Rosehill Guineas Day Previews

Brazilian Pulse

Brazilian Pulse is a favourite for the Ajax Stakes but has also been accepted for another event at Rosehill

One of the nine top races on the 2011 Rosehill Guineas Day programme this Saturday is the $175,000 Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) and 11 three-year-olds have been accepted for the showdown.

Set to run as Rosehill Race 5 at 2:50pm (AEDST) on Saturday, the 2011 Ajax Stakes field is lead by Michael Moroney’s talented filly Brazilian Pulse.

Winner of the Crown Oaks during the spring, Brazilian Pulse resumed with a first-up second behind Do Ra Mi in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on March 12.

The Group 1 winning daughter of Captain Rio, however, has suffered a blow for her possible second assignment this season drawing the far outside barrier 11 for the Ajax Stakes.

Moroney has also accepted Brazilian Pulse for the $150,000 Group 3 Keith F Nolan Classic (1800m) at the Rosehill Guineas meeting on Saturday.

Yet to make a decision on which race she will contest, the Keith F Nolan Classic looks an attractive option for Brazilian Pulse after she drew more favourably in barrier five for the three-year-old fillies feature.

Coming into contention with the ideal barrier four draw for Saturday is the Gai Waterhouse-trained Pureness.

A 52kg lightweight in the Ajax Stakes field, Tale Of The Cat four-year-old Pureness is coming off a last start third to Triple Elegance in the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) where they were drawn wide in barrier 11.

Pureness will be ridden by hoop of the moment Glen Boss who rode two Group 1 winners to victory at Rosehill last weekend aboard Aloha in the Coolmore Classic and $101 roughie Zavite in the Ranvet Stakes.

The three other most notable Ajax Stakes acceptors this year are Snow Alert (barrier five), Under The Eiffel (barrier six) and Lebrechaun (barrier seven).

The Chris Waller-trained Snow Alert is resuming after having had just one start for the year when sixth in the Listed Tattersalls Club Cup (2000m) at Randwick on January 1 where the Red Ransom five-year-old pulled up lame.

Tony Vasil’s Mossman gelding Under The Eiffel enjoyed back-to-back wins in January before finishing second to Dusty Star in the Group 2 D’Urban Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 12.

Last start Under The Eiffel was far from disgraced having run fifth beaten three lengths by Shamrocker in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) on March 5 at Flemington.

Lebrechaun is the only last start winner in the Ajax Stakes, the Matthew Dale-trained Canberra galloper having scored a gritty win a black-type at Canberra on March 13 from a wide barrier 12 draw.
