Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr‘s progressive three-year-old, Planet Red, is into odds-on favouritism to salute third-up at Caulfield in the Alister Clark Stakes 2026 this weekend.

One of the key support acts on the William Reid Stakes Day card in Melbourne, this year’s Group 2 $500,000 Alister Clark Stakes (2000m) has drawn a dozen young staying hopes potentially eyeing a trip to Sydney for the Australian Derby next month.
Sitting top of the latest Alister Clark Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is talented Admire Mars gelding Planet Red at $1.85.
The classy chestnut came close to Group 1 glory here at Caulfield in the spring when runner-up to Autumn Boy in the Caulfield Guineas at a blowout price of 30/1.
He’s proven equally as impressive this prep coming into Saturday’s assignment on the back of two good lead-up runs when second to Observer in both the Group 2 Autumn Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m).
While Observer heads north for Saturday’s Rosehill Guineas, Planet Red sticks in Victoria third-up and fit and without his recent last start conqueror there to rain on his parade, he looks deserving of his conservative quote.
Mark Zahra comes aboard in a big tick and Planet Red is drawn well midfield in gate seven chasing his first victory since a first-up victory at Sandown Lakeside last August.
The biggest threat out to stop Planet Red returning to winning form sitting on the second line of Alister Clark Stakes betting at $5.50 and firming is Roulette King.
Trevor Rogers saddles-up the in-form Casino Prince gelding who faces his acid test here up notably in grade chasing his fourth win on the trot.
Roulette King may be untested in Black-Type company, but the bookies are taking no chances with this untapped galloper who has gone back-to-back this prep by a combined winning margin of nearly five lengths.
At his latest he carted a hefty 60kg to victory in a BM66 for three-year-olds over 1800m at Sandown Hillside on March 11, and he’s deserving of a shot at this tougher assignment now back to 57kg at set weights.
Only one other runner is currently installed at single figure Alister Clark Stakes odds of $7.50 with the Matt Cumani-trained Single Choice.
The Anders gelding comes in confident third-up on the back of a winning lead-up in the Group 2 Autumn Classic (1800m) which has proven a strong form line to follow into this event.
He only had a quarter-length to spare on the line that day from a wide alley but draws better for Saturday returning to the track looking to salute again with the step up in trip set to suit.
The rails-drawn Itazura ($15) from the Moody/Coleman camp, the Simon Zahra-trained Onavuitton ($17) and the lightly raced Kaye Jay ($17) are the other best in betting chasing an upset.
The 2026 Alister Clark Stakes is set to run as Caulfield Race 9 at 4:55pm (AEDT) as the penultimate event on the program.
