This year’s Group 1 $5 million Ladbrokes Cox Plate (2040m) features a star-studded and intriguing field with plenty of form lines, both local and international, to consider.

Last year’s controversial runner-up Anamoe is the horse to beat fit and coming off a trio of Group 1 wins on the trot and he heads Cox Plate odds online at $2.40 through Ladbrokes.com.au.

Zaaki with unfinished business after last year’s scratching is the danger on the second line of Cox Plate betting at $4.60, while Chris Waller will saddle-up the international Group 1 winning El Bodegon ($7) for his Australian race debut.

So, can Anamoe go one better and salute for the punters in the Cox Plate 2022 results or is there an upset pending?

Read on for our insider Cox Plate betting selections to lock in now at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Best Bet: #10 Anamoe ($2.40 at time of publish) – BET NOW

How do you tip against a horse going as good as Anamoe? He’s gone from strength-to-strength since going down by the barest of margins last year on the back of his Caulfield Guineas victory as a 3YO. Rock hard fit and has won all three starts at Group 1 level beating plenty of these more than once leading-up to his second shot at the Cox Plate trophy. Barrier 4 is ideal, James McDonald is riding as good as this horse is winning and he’s potentially still peaking. BACK DON’T SACK.

The Danger: #12 El Bodegon ($7 at time of publish) – BET NOW

Adding a bit of mystery to the race is this Waller import, the four-year-old coming off plenty of good form in Europe. Adelaide vibes around this proven Group 1 winner who has finished out of the money just once in his nine starts overseas. Proven at the distance and did enough last time out back in August in York to suggest he can give a few of these a run for their money fresh in his first start down under. Comes from the right stable and is hard to leave out. EACH WAY.

Best Roughie: #8 Young Werther ($41 at time of publish) – BET NOW

No doubt Danny O’Brien’s stayer is crying out for further than the 2040m of the Cox Plate, but he’s going well and is third-up here suggesting he can pick up a nice placing on his way to the Melbourne Cup. The Tavistock gelding has had four runs at the distance for four placings including two in the Turnbull Stakes when second to Incentivise last year and third to Smokin’ Romans this spring. Only 1.6 lengths beaten last time out and is on the up-and-up since coming back.
