Catch Me Earns Snowden Stable Back-To-Back Gimcrack Wins

Peter and Paul Snowden have nabbed first and third in the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Catch Me won by two and three quarter lengths in a field of 14 other talented two-year old’s, while Mayaaseh raced home late to grab third in the blustery conditions.

Racing from a wide position down the straight, Catch Me swooped in late to set a new race record of 56.99 seconds – nearly two second’s faster than Defiant Dame’s record set in 2010.

“She’s a special horse, she’s got a lot of spunk about her and a nice amount of ability,” winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy told Sky Racing after the race.

The filly out of I Am Invicible kicked off the first two-year old race of the season in style, and looks to have a big future ahead with a Group win already to her name.

“She’s above average that’s for sure,” McEvoy went on to say.

“She’s only going to get better, that was a really good effort to kick like she did after being wide and a little bit aggressive in the first part of the race.”

The win marked back-to-back victories in the Gimcrack for the Snowden stable, with last year’s winner Satin Slipper beginning her Spring campaign at Flemington last weekend.

It was also McEvoy’s first victory in the race, as he now prepares to saddle up Miss Fabulass in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick later today.

As for Catch Me, this win was encouraging for the stable.

“She was an Eastern filly, she’s done really good to be out here this early,” Peter Snowden said prior to Saturday’s race.

“Two years old, first time, you’re not sure how they’re going to jump.”

Catch Me now looks like one to black book in the early stages of her career.
