2018 Queen Of The Turf Stakes Bid on For Silent Sedition

Caulfield’s Andrew Noblet is quietly confident his consistent mare Silent Sedition has what it takes to take out Saturday week’s Queen Of The Turf Stakes 2018 at Royal Randwick.

Twelve months ago the daughter of War Chant finished a close fourth just over a length beaten by Foxplay in the Group 1 $1 million Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m).

The now five-year-old is down to return to the Randwick mile on April 14 as part of Day 2 of ‘The Championships’, Silent Sedition a key chance in the race run this year as the Coolmore Legacy Stakes.

A Group 1 winning sprinter in Melbourne last March taking out the William Reid Stakes (1200m) at The Valley, the mare was last seen running just a quarter-length back third to Daysee Doom in Rosehill’s Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on March 17.

She looked spot-on in a subsequent Tuesday morning trial win on April 3 at Cranbourne, saluting in the 1190m hit-out by three lengths with regular rider this preparation Craig Williams aboard.

Winning in a slick 1:12.97, Silent Sedition impressed Noblet with the all-too-easy trial success.

“She’s going to be a month between runs heading to the Coolmore Legacy,” he told Racing Victoria on Tuesday morning.

“She didn’t want another run, but didn’t want an easy track gallop either.

“She trialled well, had a good blow, and recovered well so she’s on track.

“She’s done really well [since] – she went down to the beach for five to six days, she came back in terrific order. She’s nice and fresh and bright, and needed that today.

“She hasn’t had much luck up there [in Sydney].

“She was very good the other day – she torped [bombed] the start and ended up a couple of pairs further back than we’d have liked.

“She was close at the end, and she’ll be around the placings if we can get the luck next start.”

All-in Queen Of The Turf Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au lists Silent Sedition as an $11 chance in futures markets led by Dixie Blossoms ($4.60) and stablemate Daysee Doom ($6.50).

The Ron Quinton-trained Dixie Blossoms was third in last year’s Queen Of The Turf Stakes trifecta on the back of a third in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m).

She ran third in the same lead-up race again last weekend a half-length beaten in a blanket finish.

Quinton is also expected to have stablemate Daysee Doom in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes field this autumn, the reigning Coolmore Classic winner looking to atone for her fifth when three-quarters of a length beaten after trying to lead all-the-way in the Emancipation Stakes.

The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Emancipation Stakes winner Prompt Response is paying $7.50 in pre-field Queen Of The Turf Stakes odds to complete the double, while the defending champion Foxplay is at $9 to go back-to-back for the first time since More Joyous (2011-12).
