Chris Waller‘s champion mare Autumn Glow has retained her undefeated record posting her 11th straight win with an effortless demolition job in the 2026 George Ryder Stakes results at Rosehill on Saturday adding to jockey James McDonald‘s remarkable Group 1 riding record.

Earlier on the Slipper Day card in Sydney, McDonald levelled up to Damien Oliver with Group 1 win number 129 aboard Aeliana in the Ranvet before surpassing the G.O.A.T. with his record 130th triumph on Autumn Boy in the Rosehill Guineas.
The victories kept coming for J-Mac and the Waller stable in the Group 1 $1 million George Ryder Stakes (1500m) with flawless The Autumn Sun four-year-old Autumn Glow making a mess of her rivals to keep her undefeated record intact.
“It was evident in the week when Chris said you’ll see something special, so when he says that, I take notice because her work’s been phenomenal,” McDonald said post-race.
“I truly believe she loves fast ground, because there’s not a horse that could come with her.
“It doesn’t matter what is in the race. She’s just got an amazing sustained speed, it’s quite incredible what we’re witnessing.
“She’s the jockey’s dream – you get nervous on horses, certain horses throughout your life, and she’s one you don’t.
“She’s important. Let’s not beat around the bush, she’s 11 from 11.
“People are here to come out and see her, and she’s got such an amazing fanfare now – it’s growing.
“It’s incredible. The feeling you get off these horses and it’s special to witness people pin their eyeballs on her.
“I thought Anamoe was a big deal. This horse has taken it to a new level.”
After claiming her second Group 1 success last time out in the Verry Elleegant Stakes, Autumn Glow proved the superior middle-distance star yet again taking out the George Ryder by nearly three lengths as the odds-on $1.28 favourite.
“I guess the last two were sort of pressure, pressure, without pulling ourselves up – we know what racing’s about, we know what’s going on,” Waller told Sky Thoroughbred Central speaking of Autumn Glow’s 11/11 feat.
“To get that out of the way and then to deal with a champion in the next race, it’s pretty special. Yeah, I’m sure he got a good kick out of it.
“Yeah, in my eyes she is (a champion)- I’m qualified to know what one’s like.
“So, yeah, she’s a very talented horse. Obviously, longevity is the key now. If she keeps doing that, she’ll be a champion for sure.”
The master of the sit back and launch late ride, McDonald did just that on Waller’s queen allowing Autumn Glow to settle towards the tail end of the field early stages as Beiwacht did the work up front leading them round the turn for home.
Autumn Glow was sixth as they cornered before McDonald got out and put her in the mix by the top of the straight.
Unable to contain her any longer, he let her rip at the 250 and she let down beautifully racing away for an all too easy victory over Ciaron Maher‘s dual The Big Dance champ and last year’s George Ryder champ Gringotts ($19) with Bjorn Baker‘s last start Futurity champ Pericles ($16) completing the trifecta in a brave third having done plenty of work from his wide gate.
“Awesome run. The mare dropped us 500m from home. It took 100m for us to get through that flat spot,” Gringotts’ hoop Nash Rawiller said.
“Really proud of the way he hit the line the last 300m. Took an awkward run and really accelerated the last 100m. Great effort.”
There are plenty of options on the table for the remainder of Autumn Glow’s prep, with the Group 1 $5 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on April 11 looking the most likely option.
“Just wait, wait,” Waller said when asked what was next for the now triple Group 1 winner.
“We’ll give them our best opinion of what we think.
“Look, she just does everything so effortlessly.
“That’ll help her get 2000m.”
She sits at the top of the latest all-in Queen Elizabeth Stakes odds at $2 through Ladbrokes.com.au followed on the next like of betting by her stablemate Aeliana ($3).
“I’m sick of bloody pointing where she goes!” McDonald said when asked his thoughts on Autumn Glow’s next-up targets.
“I’ll let him (Waller) decide.
“Put it this way, I wouldn’t be shying away from any horse in the country.”
