Monday sees the time-honoured Adelaide Cup 2026 headline the racing action at Morphettville with a bumper field of autumn stayers set to face off in the two-mile classic.

One of the few remaining genuine Cup-distance events down under, the Group 2 $350,000 Adelaide Cup (3200m) has drawn a top line-up of gallopers looking to etch their name into the history books alongside the likes of past greats including Lord Reims (1987, 1988, 1989), Subzero (1992), Our Pompeii (1993, 1994), Gallic (2007), Surprise Baby (2019) and King Of Leogrance (2020).
It is an open top half of the markets with the bookies and punters having a hard time separating the leading two as the Phillip Stokes-trained Highland Bling ($4.50) and Dan O’Sullivan‘s topweight Berkeley Square ($4.80) battle for favouritism.
Highland Bling is drawn wide out in gate 17 but with time to overcome the alley, the local five-year-old remains narrow favourite to take home the winner’s cheque.
The gelding presents fit third-up and is tipped to go one better than his devastatingly close second in the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes (2600m) at the track on February 21.
He was only a nose beaten on the line in the traditional Adelaide Cup lead-up having made up ground from midfield and is expected to relish the rise in trip now.
After carrying 56kg last time out, Highland Bling should be airborne back to just 53kg on Monday with Lachlan Neindorf continuing associations.
From the wide gate, Neindorf is expected to cross and sit on pace, and his mount has the fitness and staying ability to see it out and salute for the punters.
Drawn the opposite end of this year’s Adelaide Cup field in barrier one, Berkeley Square may be giving the weight away to his rivals with 59.5kg but still there’s money for him to overcome the kilos.
History is against him however with only two Adelaide Cup winners having carried 58kg or more to victory since the metric system came into play: Hyperno in 1978 and Gallic in 2007.
The Territories six-year-old was strong at Flemington last start carrying a hefty 61.5kg to victory over 2500m so, he’s got the ability to cart plenty of weight and Luke Nolen sticks aboard for Monday’s test.
Two other runners are currently at single figure Adelaide Cup odds for the win through Ladbrokes.com.au with Newfoundland ($6) from the Waterhouse/Bott yard and the early Danny O’Brien-trained market mover Hurry Curry ($11 into $8.50).
Tim Clark partners seven-year-old Deep Impact gelding Newfoundland who ran a strong second behind Silent Surrente in last year’s Adelaide Cup results.
Lightly raced since with just four starts over the past 12 months, he returned a first-up winner at Warwick Farm in the Listed Australia Day Cup (2400m) before things went amiss when he finished second last in the Flemington race won by Berkeley Square.
If punters can forgive his last start, he looks a genuine chance to improve getting out over further now.
Hurry Curry meanwhile is getting love in the Adelaide Cup betting markets after drawing favourably in gate four for the in-form Jamie Melham to ride.
The four-year-old Ocean Park mare took her record up to three wins from 16 starts when digging deep to take out a BM74 over 2400m at Sandown last month.
She comes back from 56.5kg in that to the 53kg on Monday which puts her right in the mix to get the distance, and she’ll enjoy conditions to suit should the track remain in the Soft range.
Next best at more generous odds for an upset include the Will Clarken-trained rising nine-year-old Komachi ($10) who boasts an excellent record at Morphettville (10:4-0-1) and Michael Kent‘s Shocking six-year-old Samuel Langhorne ($13) who has the outside alley but is bred to get the distance.
Further down the markets representing potential value are the likes of the Sarah Rutten-trained Redwood mare Crimson Vine ($17) coming off a string of consistent placings and her stablemate, Helmet mare Eventually ($23), who scored a boilover at 40/1 in the Lord Reims and
Eventually is out to become the 19th winner of the Lord Reims / Adelaide Cup double and the first since Apache King in 2001.
The 2026 Adelaide Cup is set to run as Morphettville Race 7 at 4:15pm (ACDT) on Monday’s nine-race card.
