The punters are coming for Anthony & Sam Freedman‘s resuming filly, Point Barrow, who looks to kick off her autumn with a Group 1 win against older rivals at Caulfield in the Oakleigh Plate 2026.

Blue Diamond Day sees the elite-level racing of the Autumn Carnival continue this weekend with a triple-shot of Group 1 action in Melbourne headlined by the season’s most promising two-year-olds facing off in the 56th edition of the Blue Diamond Stakes.
For the sprinters eyeing targets like Sydney’s TJ Smith Stakes in April, the key event on Saturday’s card is the Group 1 $750,000 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) which drew 14 final acceptors this year.
Sitting top of the latest Oakleigh Plate odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au is the talented but still untapped daughter of Blue Point, three-year-old Point Barrow, who pays $3.10 and is fast firming for her campaign kickoff.
Point Barrow gets in on just 50kg and should be airborne with the light weight for jockey Jamie Melham.
The up-and-comer has won four from six to date and races for the first time since claiming the Group 3 Red Roses at HQ during the Cup Carnival.
Her two lead-up trials have been eye-catching and despite the poor strike-rate of fillies in the Oakleigh, there’s plenty of money coming for her to break the hoodoo.
The one most likely to stop a successful return for Point Barrow occupying the second line of Oakleigh Plate betting at $7 is the talented Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Tropicus.
Kicking off for the autumn with big race specialist Craig Williams to ride, the four-year-old Too Darn Hot entire is a Caulfield specialist boasting a sensational strike-rate at the track (5:3-1-0).
Another proven first-up performer (5:2-1-1), he won’t be found at the same juicy odds that he took out the Group 3 The Heath at this track and trip in slick time last August.
Ran a brave second to Giga Kick in the Group 2 Schillaci here after that before a last start sixth in the Group 1 Champions Sprint down the straight at Flemington without disgrace on November 8.
Has looked ready to go in his two recent Mornington trials, he’ll need to go to a new level with 58.5kg, but this year’s Oakleigh lacks a bit of depth and he’s one who can roll forward to land on speed and keep finding late.
Despite the size of the field just one other challenger is currently under double figures for the win with the in-form Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman-trained Gallant Son ($8.50) who has the fitness edge over his resuming rivals.
Chasing a hat-trick, this four-year-old son of Written Tycoon is being thrown in the deep end after two lead-up wins in much easier grade taking out a BM70 over 1000m at Flemington on January 10 followed by a BM84 victory by three-quarters of a length over this course and distance at his latest.
Comes back notably weight-wise from 56.5kg to 52kg and is drawn a dream in gate three for apprentice Luke Cartwright.
Of the longer priced fancies chasing an upset there’s a handful that standout as potential value in your Oakleigh Plate betting this season including the Gavin Bedggood-trained 59kg topweight Hedged ($16).
It’s a tough task to cart that weight to victory however as just one Oakleigh Plate winner has carried more than 57kg to victory since the year 2000 with Flamberge (58kg in 2016).
Still, Hedged has been excellent so far this prep winning the Group 2 Australia Stakes at Pakenham on January 23 before a brave last start third to Oak Hill here in the Group 2 Rubiton in a run full of merit.
Other notable Oakleigh Plate contenders this autumn include the Mark Walker-trained former Tasmanian Geegees Mistruth ($11) who ran a first-up second in the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1000m) last October, the well-weighted Persian Spirit ($12) and the Rubiton winner Oak Hill ($19) at any old price for the Hayes boys.
The 2026 Oakleigh Plate is scheduled as Caulfield Race 9 at 4:55pm (AEDT) on Saturday’s 10-race Blue Diamond Day card.
