A key lead-up to the Randwick Guineas sees a gun field of three-year-olds face off at Rosehill on Saturday’s Silver Slipper Day card with Ninja narrow favourite in an open 2026 Hobartville Stakes betting market.

An autumn launching pad for some of the country’s best performers over the years including The Autumn Sun (2019), Anamoe (2022) and last year’s champ Broadsiding (2025), the Group 2 $400,000 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) features another quality line-up this season.

Sitting top of the latest Hobartville Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is the consistent Michael Freedman-trained Farnan gelding Ninja at $3.20 and firming.

Tommy Berry sticks aboard the proven Rosehill performer who boasts a 50% winning strike-rate from his six starts to date from a favourable gate three draw.

Ninja races for the first time since his brave second to Torque To Be Sure in the Gold Coast’s Magic Millions 3YO Guineas when denied by his horror barrier (17).

He faces a much smaller field this weekend and looks every hope to atone for his luckless effort in Queensland following on from a sharp Rosehill trial win on February 12 that has kept him ticking over fitness-wise.

The main danger according to the bookies sitting on the second line of Hobartville betting in 2026 is the John O’Shea & Tom Charlton trained early market mover Napoleonic ($3.70).

The flying Zac Lloyd has the ride again after steering the nicely bred Wootton Bassett colt to his second behind gun filly Tempted a fortnight back in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince.

He is after his first win over further than six-furlongs on the weekend but looks the type to get the 1400m trip and remains a genuine each way play from gate five.

There’s also sure to be plenty of eyes on barrier seven which launches the autumn bid of the Chris Waller-trained Caulfield Guineas champ Autumn Boy ($4).

Autumn Boy is bred for Hobartville success being a son of the 2019 champion The Autumn Sun!

A son of the race’s 2019 winner, The Autumn Sun, Autumn Boy has won three of his five starts so far and capped off his spring with a great three-quarter length Group 1 win over the mile in Melbourne.

He’s back home in Sydney now for the first time since his midfield Golden Eagle seventh and he’s one to watch the closing stages with a crucial gear change seeing him race without the blinkers.

The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Shangri La Boy ($7) rounds out the single figure hopes.

The consistent Pierro colt had a brilliant maiden campaign winning two from four and he’s yet to run out of the money.

Rosehill has been a happy hunting ground with both his victories being at the track he resumes at on Saturday.

His best win was in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes here over the 1800m by two lengths last October before his narrow defeat running a long-neck second behind Attica (also great value first-up in the same race on the weekend) in the Group 1 Spring Champion (2000m) when nabbed right on the line.

Looked sharp in his winning Cranbourne trial on February 6 beating Group 1 winning mare Stefi Magnetica and has a good booking in Tim Clark.

Expected leader and will take something very good to run him down.

Other value plays in this year’s Hobartville include the aforementioned Spring Champion Stakes winner Attica ($12) for trainer Joe Pride and the Waller-trained Wodeton ($12) who was strong first-up when third in the Eskimo Prince.

The 2026 Hobartville Stakes is set to run as Rosehill Race 8 at 4:35pm (AEDT) on the 10-race Sydney card for Saturday.
