Punters only have to wait until Saturday for the highly anticipated return of Michael Freedman‘s Flight Stakes winning filly Apocalyptic who gets her autumn underway as the odds-on favourite in the Light Fingers Stakes 2026 field at Randwick.

The countdown to the Sydney Group 1s continues in earnest on Apollo Stakes Day this weekend with a trio of Group 2 events across the 10-race card including the fillies running in the $300,000 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m).
Eleven make up this year’s field with Apocalyptic donning the No. 1 saddlecloth and attracting plenty of big money bets at her short quote of $1.55 in Light Fingers Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.
The bonny daughter of Extreme Choice was won of last spring’s boom fillies stringing together three wins on the trot here at Randwick when completing the Group 2 Furious Stakes – Tea Rose double before her outstanding Flight Stakes victory at a similarly short quote to what she’ll jump at on Saturday fresh.
She was narrowly denied a second elite level win when travelling south for a second to Ole Dancer in Caulfield’s Thousand Guineas at her latest on October 18, and her lead-up trials have been promising.
Apocalyptic further benefits from the rails-drawn in the Light Fingers and has Tommy Berry reuniting associations.
Second favourite in the markets at $4.40 and the only other single-figure fancy is the Brad Widdup-trained Savvy Hallie.
Drawn well in gate four for jockey Nash Rawiller, the daughter of Hellbent relished a mud Randwick track last August to take out the Group 2 Silver Shadow before a game third to Apocalyptic in the Furious Stakes on Good going when under a length beaten.
At her latest she ran at the Gold Coast on January 10 in easier company for a resuming fourth in the Magic Millions Sunlight with improvement pending second-up.
Boasting form around the likes of Nepotism and Tempted last autumn, Savvy Hallie could prove one of the season’s surprise packages starting on Saturday.
Outside of the top two in the latest Light Fingers Stakes odds are a number of potential value runners including the Chris Waller-trained Flight Stakes third placegetter Karinska ($12), Artistic Venture ($14) who was runner-up at blowout odds to Apocalyptic in the Tea Rose Stakes, and the untapped Annabel & Rob Neasham-trained Nepo Baby ($15) in her Group race debut.
The 2026 Light Fingers Stakes opens Group racing at Randwick on Saturday as Race 6 at 3:15pm (AEDT).
