A diminutive but exciting line-up of Cox Plate hopefuls will do battle under the lights at The Valley on Friday night with Treasurethe Moment returning as the clear favourite in Feehan Stakes 2025 betting.

Only six middle-distance starts take to the Moonee Valley track in this year’s Group 2 $500,000 Ladbrokes Feehan Stakes (1600m) which leads nicely into the also Ladbrokes’ sponsored Cox Plate – worth a record $6 million in 2025 – back at the track on October 25.

What the Feehan Stakes field is lacking in numbers it certainly makes up for in spring prospects to watch including the clear Matt Laurie trained mare Treasurethe Moment who heads betting at a very short quote of $1.40 through Ladbrokes.com.au.

She comes into the mile showdown on a very rich vein of form having won nine on the trot with her latest seeing her dominate her four-year-old debut when blitzing an outstanding line-up including Mr Brightside by a minimum 2.5 lengths in Caulfield’s Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m).

That form was franked with Mr B becoming history’s first triple Makybe Diva Stakes winner.

A mile bout of colic has put Treasurethe Moment out of action since that stunning August 30 return, but all reports from the vets and the stable are she’s ready to bounce back and has come through that setback without harm.

Two-from-two over the 1600m, Friday night marks her maiden The Valley assignment but her racing style and class suggests she’ll handle the tight turns.

Regular rider Damian Lane is replaced by Mark Zahra who jumps back aboard this VRC Oaks – ATC Oaks double winning top-liner for the second time, and he’s riding in terrific form of late.

Pride Of Jenni resumes in the Feehan looking to become the event's first two-time winner since The Cleaner in 2014-15!

Barrier one is a non-issue here in such a small field, and if she’s come through the setback as well as word suggest, then she’ll be winning as good as her price indicates.

Two of her rivals are also under $10 for the win however with the defending champion Pride Of Jenni ($4) resuming and Godolphin champ Tom Kitten ($5.50) looking to recapture his best form.

Ciaron Maher‘s front-running queen, Pride Of Jenni won this race third-up last spring by 1.5 lengths and gets her chance to go back-to-back for the first time since The Cleaner (2014-15).

The now eight-year-old daughter of Pride Of Dubai saw out her winter campaign with a flop when 10th in Brisbane’s Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) but has looked back to her best in two recent trials.

This mare knows how to get the crowd cheering and there will be plenty backing her at The Valley on Friday evening, but she is a tough one to get a complete gauge on fresh.

She’s drawn one inside the favourite so expect some early fireworks, regular rider Declan Bates loves her dearly and will get her to the front right away, and it’ll be some watch to see if she can go all-the-way.

Tom Kitten meanwhile has his second official start for Anthony & Sam Freedman with the Harry Angel five-year-old looking to improve on his resuming fifth when beating just one runner home in Flemington’s Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m).

Having had his original first-up run delayed, going fresh to a mile was a tough ask and a slow tempo did Tom Kitten no favours that day at HQ.

He’ll be improving off of that sticking to the same distance, has won twice second-up in the past but does see Moonee Valley for the first time.

Still, he’s an All-Star Mile winner reaching peak maturity, so it is now or never.

The 2025 Ladbrokes Feehan Stakes is set to run as Moonee Valley Race 6 at 8:45pm (AEST) on Friday night’s eight-race card.
