No. 13 Tiger Shark (9) and No. 6 Jedibeel (6) have been scratched from the Moir Stakes 2025 field in favour of a run in Sydney’s Concorde Stakes this Saturday.
The price on lightly raced filly Esha to retain her undefeated status when thrown in the deep end for the 2025 Moir Stakes on Saturday has firmed with the youngster now in the Group 1 field following Wednesday night’s scratching of 100/1 pop Tiger Shark.

Trainer Clayton Douglas opted to withdraw his roughie hope from this year’s $750,000 Moir Stakes (1000m) in favour of a Sydney run in the Group 3 $1 million Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on the same day.
The Concorde has proved a happy hunting ground for sprinters chasing a slot in the world’s richest turf race with the $20 million The Everest to run back at Royal Randwick on October 18.
Five-year-old Rich Enuff mare Tiger Shark will face stiff competition in the Concorde including Chris Waller’s resuming multiple Group 1 winner Lady Shenandoah who is the $2.90 favourite through Ladbrokes.com.au at time of publish along with confirmed The Everest slot holder Jimmysstar ($5).
She is at 50/1 drawn gate seven with Regan Bayliss to ride.
As for this weekend’s Melbourne feature, the Shane Nichols & Hayden Black trained Extreme Choice filly Esha is into $5 to beat her older, more seasoned rivals in the Moir Stakes field.
The race’s sole emergency, she comes into the starting line-up drawn barrier four with Jamie Melham booked for the ride.
Melham won the race back in 2022 with the last Moir Stakes winning filly, Coolangatta, which bodes well as an omen bet for Esah this weekend.
After a big win on debut at Morphettville Parks back in May, she was last seen going back-to-back with a 3.5 length romp home at the Moir track and trip in a three-year-old’s handicap on August 9.
Proven at The Valley and dropping plenty of weight back from 55.5kg to 50.5kg with Melham approved to ride her a half-kilo over allocation, Esha is sure to be airborne as she looks to secure a hat-trick.
This is a notable rise in grade, and she faces a genuine test against a deep field of short distance specialists, but there’s money coming for her to show her potential.
A second Moir Stakes scratching occurred just before 9:30am (AEST) on Friday morning with Jedibeel, who was at $16 at time of withdrawal, also taken out with trainer Brad Widdup opting to push the Savabeel six-year-old’s The Everest bid forward in Sydney’s Concorde Stakes.
“I wanted to cover my bases in case Jedibeel drew poorly in one race,” Widdup told Provincial Racing NSW.
“Now that he has drawn nicely in the Concorde, we’re staying in Sydney.”
Jedibeel jumps from barrier four in the Concorde with Kerrin McEvoy to ride and is currently paying $11 to win, while he is at $101 to win The Everest 2025 through Ladbrokes.com.au.
The Ken & Bev Kelso trained Alabama Lass has firmed into outright favouritism in Moir Stakes betting for her return coming in from $5 to $4.20.
A six-time winner from her nine career starts to date, the Kiwi raider is also a dual Group 1 runner-up across the Tasman.
She has won her past two starts including her down under debut in the Moomba Plate at Flemington over 1100m back in March and is a noted first-up flyer (3:2-1-0) drawn well in gate three with Craig Williams in the saddle.
Former top fancy Baraqiel is on the drift in the Moir Stakes odds online out from $4.40 to $6.50 despite his good lead-up Listed Norman Carlyon Stakes victory at the course and distance.
Niance ($6) who has won her past four starts and returning Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning winner Skybird ($9.50) are the other single figure hopes.
