The 2025 Golden Rose odds of the Peter Snowden trained Grand Prairie have been slashed following the colt’s narrow but impressive win in a dramatic edition of the Group 3 $250,000 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

The event, a key lead-up to the Group 1 $1 million Golden Rose (1400m) held back at the track on September 27, was marred by the fall of fellow contender Tyreek and hoop Dylan Gibbons on the straight.
Gibbons was up and responsive soon after the fall, but sadly Snitzel gelding Tyreek from the stables of John O’Shea & Tom Charlton was subsequently euthanised despite best efforts by the equine veterinarians after the horse fractured his shoulder.
Gibbons and his mount were forced into the rails around the 150m mark and falling to the track after horses closed in both sides.
The eventual Up And Coming Stakes winner Grand Prairie meanwhile had firmed into $3.90 favouritism before jump and raced up to expectation holding off a late charge on his outside by the Chris Waller roughie Fermoy to salute for the punters.
Coming off back-to-back seconds including behind Skyhook by a narrow margin in the Listed The Rosebud, Grand Prairie was again ridden by Tom Sherry who burst through inside the 100m to hold position and take out top honours.
Sherry could still be under fire for the winning ride however as he got caught up in the shuffle for positions forcing James McDonald and his mount Providence onto the fence, which subsequently caused the fall behind them.
“He was travelling well and then just got interfered with,” McDonald explained after riding Providence to a luckless last (sixth).
Zoustar colt Fermoy remains a maiden but was explosive late going down by only a short neck on the line in a run that impressed his hoop Tommy Berry.
“He’s a lovely horse,” Berry told the media post-race.
“I’ve got no doubt he will make it at the top level. He is just learning his craft which you would have seen today. Once he gets over a mile or further, they will have some fun.”
In third completing the trifecta two lengths off the winner was the emerging Bjorn Baker trained gelding Crown The King ridden by Ashley Morgan who suggested the horse would improve getting out over a longer distance later in the spring.
“Lovely horse going forward. Up in trip he will be really smart,” Morgan said.
A gear change for the Group 3 proved the right move for the winning horse as Snowden removed the winkers to help Grand Prairie settle better in the run. The colt had previously shown signs of laziness in work, and the gear change was aimed at improving his race-day composure.
Manawanui (2011) was the last horse to complete the Up And Coming Stakes – Golden Rose double.
The all-in odds on Grand Prairie to be the next at Ladbrokes.com.au have been wound in dramatically from $101 to $21.
