Chris Waller‘s highly spruiked daughter of The Autumn Sun, Autumn Glow, lived up to the hype first-up with a smart win fresh for the punters as the odds-on favourite in the 2025 Toy Show Quality results.

In a brilliant four-year-old debut, the now triple Group winner proved too good for her rivals on a Heavy (10) Randwick track to take out the Group 3 $250,000 Toy Show Quality (1100m) by a half-length on the line over Gangsta Granny with Hi Dubai third.
“We are finding out way with her. She is telling us what her distances are, what her comfort zones are. Be good to have a chat to James. To see what he thinks. I just thought from the 500m to the 300m she was a little bit vulnerable. When you are talking on the best sprinters, you can’t be vulnerable. That is on a very heavy track which she hasn’t raced on before as well,” Waller told the media post-win.
“She is ticking every single box, and we are trying to learn as we can.”
Having to fight her way through the field, Autumn Glow ($1.50) made it five-from-five in a performance that had jockey James McDonald singing her plenty of post-victory praises.
“Everyone probably thought she was gone but I said to John before the race all I want to do is let her breeze up one and that is all she did,” McDonald said.
“She didn’t have to improve much. She has always shown so much. The thing is we haven’t even scratched the surface in terms of putting her under a lot of pressure.
“Whatever she has done so far, Chris has just wrapped her in cotton wool. She is doing it all on her own. When she starts with the sword put to her, she will respond really well. She is that type of horse. She has got no pain barrier.”
Sitting fourth on the home straight, McDonald got out and found room on the inside a furlong out from the line to open up well and race past Gangsta Granny from the Hawkes stable to salute.
Waller has a smorgasbord of spring options for the undefeated Toy Show winner who looked to have plenty of improvement still to come over the next few weeks and months.
We are going to take her home, that is where we are going to take her. I’ll have a talk to the owners, Hermitage and Arrowfield and see what that think and have my five cents worth. To me she is a natural miler and that would be a safe bet.”
“Chancing our arm in sprint races against the best when you are not quite there yet,” Waller said.
“She will be there in 6 to 12 months’ time but while chancing your arm go through handicaps, maybe a 1300m next start the Theo Marks.”
The Group 2 $300,000 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) runs at Rosehill Gardens on September 13 and is a race Waller has won four times since 2013, most recently with Kiki (2022).
Autumn Glow also holds an entry for the Group 1 $6 million Ladbrokes Cox Plate (2040m) at The Valley on October 25 and currently pays $26 through Ladbrokes.com.au to win.
