The official 2025 Golden Slipper final field has been released with a capacity line-up of 16 juveniles plus two emergency runners confirmed on Tuesday morning with the favourite, Wodeton, drawn a treat in gate 2.

Chris Waller‘s progressive colt Wodeton narrowly heads markets for Saturday’s 2025 Golden Slipper field with the world’s richest race for two-year-olds headlining the bumper Rosehill Gardens‘ card this weekend in Sydney.

Elite level racing during the Sydney carnival hits fever pitch for Golden Slipper Stakes Day where five Group 1s will be run and won including the $5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m).

Wootton Bassett colt Wodeton, to be ridden by James McDonald on Saturday, is the current $4.60 favourite in the latest Golden Slipper Stakes odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au despite coming off back-to-back losses.

He won on debut in January by nearly four-lengths over 1100m here at Rosehill before his placings in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (3rd) and Group 2 Todman Stakes (3rd) as the beaten favourite with excuses on both occasions.

The bookies and punters are giving him one last chance in the big one on Saturday with Wodeton the top-fancy again after being beaten under a length at Randwick over this distance in the Todman by Tentyris.

Fillies have won five of the past seven editions of the Golden Slipper!

The danger occupying the second line of Golden Slipper betting at $5.50 is the Godolphin raced Street Boss filly Tempted with Blake Shinn booked for the ride on the inside of the favourite from gate one.

Barrier one produced back-to-back Golden Slipper winners with Fireburn in 2022 and Shinzo in 2023 making this a coveted gate for Tempted on the weekend.

The James Cummings trained chestnut was a mid-field seventh in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in Melbourne two back in February before atoning when returning north to win the Group 2 Reisling Stakes at Randwick on March 8.

Fillies have won five of the past seven editions of the Golden Slipper, most recently last year when Lady Of Camelot beat home the boys in 2024 for the Waterhouse/Bott stable.

This season, Tempted is the best fancied of the girls when she looks to complete the Reisling Stakes/Golden Slipper Stakes double for the first time since Estijaab (2018).

Tempted is out to be the first filly to do the Reisling/Golden Slipper double since Estijaab in 2018!

There are five confirmed fillies in the Golden Slipper Stakes final field with the other best fancied being the Bjorn Baker trained Within The Law who is an $11 shot after drawing wide out in gate 13.

The bonny daughter of Lucky Vega has won three of her four starts and she’s proven over the 1200m distance.

After a second in the lucrative $2 million Inglis Millennium by a narrow margin on February 8, she bounced back from her only career loss to date with a victory in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes by the barest of margins at the start of the month.

Skyhook at Golden Slipper Stakes odds of $7.50 meanwhile is the last of the single figure fancies this autumn.

Kerrin McEvoy, who rode Sepoy to his 2011 Slipper triumph, partners the progressive Written Tycoon colt for Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou with the young horse on the quick back-up after winning his way into the race via a terrific 3.24 length romp home here in last Saturday’s Group 3 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m).

Proven now at the Golden Slipper track and trip, Skyhook is looking to join Shinzo (2023) as the latest Pago winners to back-up and win the feature.

Other noteworthy Golden Slipper Stakes contenders include the undefeated Kris Lees trained Too Darn Hot colt Rivellino, Team Hawkes’ Extreme Choice colt Devil Night racing for the first time since his Blue Diamond win a month ago, and Michael Freedman’s Reisling runner-up Marhoona.

Hugh Bowman becomes the fourth jockey in as many starts for the flying Rivellino in the Golden Slipper field from a nice barrier three draw.

The Inglis Millennium winning youngster was last seen beating Skyhook home in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes back on March 1, the form of which has been franked.

The 2025 Golden Slipper is set to run as Rosehill Race 8 at 4:35pm (AEDT) on Saturday’s 10-race card.
