Scarlet Oak Heads 2024 Queensland Oaks Field & Betting

Chris Waller’s The Roses winner Scarlet Oak is favourite to keep the victories coming in the sunshine state when she lines-up in the 2024 Queensland Oaks field at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

This year’s Group 1 $700,000 Queensland Oaks (2200m) features a capacity line-up of three-year-old fillies including the first emergency, Callistemon, coming in for early withdrawal Tutta La Vita.

Even with Tutta La Vita out, ace Sydney-based horseman Waller has five confirmed Oaks runners as he chases his fourth win in the winter event.

Waller has prepared three previous Queensland Oaks winners with Winx (2015), Egg Tart (2017) and most recently Youngstar (2018).

Scarlet Oak is favourite for the stable this year to post her third win in succession and fourth from five career starts sitting top of Queensland Oaks betting at $3.50 through Ladbrokes.com.au.

The nicely-bred daughter of Kermadec came off a big Newcastle win over the mile on Heavy going to claim the Group 2 The Roses (2000m) at Doomben on May 25.

The Roses form is traditionally the one to follow into the Oaks with the aforementioned Youngstar (2018) the last to do the double.

Scarlet Oak is out to be the first filly to complete The Roses – Queensland Oaks double since the fellow Waller-trained Youngstar back in 2018

She only had a narrow margin on the line in the Group 2 and needs to rise again here at Eagle Farm over further from a wide alley (15) for her and master hoop James McDonald to overcome.

The other Waller runners in the Oaks field this weekend are early market mover Ahuriri ($5.50) drawn near the carpark, The Roses runner-up Mare Of Mt Buller ($8.50) who looks value in gate two for Tommy Berry, Concello ($31), and Firestorm ($31).

John Allen is tasked with the difficult outside draw on the well-supported, Kiwi-bred Almanzor filly Ahuriri who brings in different form lines.

She won Flemington’s Listed VRC St Leger (2800m) in style two back on ANZAC Day displaying her staying prowess before a last start fifth when far from disgraced taking on the boys at Morphettville on May 4 in the Group 1 SA Derby (2500m).

Dundeel filly Mare Of Mt Buller meanwhile presents as a genuine danger after overcoming a wide run to make up plenty of ground from the back and narrowly go down to Scarlet Oak in The Roses last time out.

The last of the single-figure fancies in the Oaks markets at $5.50 is New Zealand raider, the Lance O’Sullivan & Andrew Scott-trained Molly Bloom.

Blake Shinn has the ride on the daughter of Ace High who won the Group 1 NZ 1000 Guineas at home last November.

She’s a subsequent two-time Group 2 winner across the Tasman and is third-up down under now off two credible lead-ups.

Fresh on May 11 at the Sunshine Coast she handled a Heavy (10) track to cross second in the Listed Bracelet (1800m) and was last seen finishing just two lengths fifth in The Roses with improvement to come.

The Queensland Oaks 2024 is scheduled as Eagle Farm Race 8 at 3:52pm (AEST) on Saturday with full markets from Ladbrokes.com.au available by clicking here.
