Trainer Annabel Neasham made it four straight wins in the A.D. Hollindale Stakes claiming the 2024 edition in a stylish upset with her game veteran Numerian first-up at the Sunshine Coast.

Neasham had won the last three editions of the Group 2 $500,000 A.D. Hollindale Stakes (1800m) thanks to the triple shot by Zaaki.
She finished on top again this season with the important Doomben Cup lead-up run at the Sunshine Coast for the second year running on Heavy going.
Resuming in his first run since a brave fourth in January’s Group 2 Perth Cup (2400m) over in WA, talented Holy Roman Emperor gelding Numerian had residual fitness and ability on his side to claim the Queensland showdown at a big price.
Enjoying another Group 2 to add to his Ted Van Heemst victory at Ascot last December and the 2022 The Q22 in Brisbane, the good galloper was given a perfectly-time ride by Jamie Mott who had his horse settled mid-field as Wapiti led them around in the Hollindale.
Once on the straight, Mott asked for more and Numerian ($31) responded in earnest, hitting the front with less than a furlong to go and running on strongly.
The horse dashed clear and went on to defeat Just Folk ($5) by a solid 1.5 length margin, while the beaten Chris Waller-trained favourite Kovalica ($3F) got out late to finish third with improvement to come over further this winter.
The Hollindale has served as an excellent guide to Brisbane’s Group 1 $1 million Doomben Cup (2000m), run this year on May 25th.
Huetor wont he past two editions of the Doomben Cup on the back of lead-up starts in the Hollindale when 4th in 2022 and 2nd last year.
Numerian meanwhile was a devastatingly close second to Huetor in last year’s Doomben Cup.
He has firmed into $7 in all-in Doomben Cup 2024 betting at Ladbrokes.com.au with markets led by Kovalica ($4.20) and the dual defending champion Huetor ($6) who ran fifth in today’s Hollindale.
Zaaki (2021) was the last horse to complete the Hollindale Stakes – Doomben Cup double.
