Ranvet Stakes 2024 Field & Betting Update: Think It Over Favourite of Six Remaining Runners

The line-up for Saturday’s Group 1 $1 million Ranvet Stakes (2000m) is down to just six runners with trainer Chris Waller opting to scratch his VRC Derby winner Riff Rocket in favour of a run against his own age in the following race – the Rosehill Guineas – and Bois D’argent coming out on Friday afternoon.
Updated Ranvet Stakes odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au have Think It Over as the firm $2.60 favourite coming into barrier one with Nash Rawiller in the saddle.
Third-up and fit the evergreen eight-year-old So You Think gelding has been in excellent form this prep with a third fresh to Fangirl in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) before his nearly one-length upset over that mare in the Group 1 Verry Elleegant Stakes (1600m).
He rises to the 2000m now which he has an excellent record over (12:6-1-1) including a Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes victory back in 2022.
The danger occupying the second line of Ranvet Stakes betting at $3 is Waller’s import, Via Sistina, in the outside alley with James McDonald to ride.
The Yu Long-raced Fastnet Rock mare may be making her Australian debut in the Ranvet, but the bookies are keeping her safe to make an immediate impact down under.
The six-year-old has a consistent record over the distance (7:3-3-0) and was last seen running second in Ascot’s Group 1 Champion Stakes (2011m) in the UK last October.
In a tight market a further two rivals are also under double-figures for the win with the fellow Waller-trained Buckaroo ($4.60) to be ridden by Ryan Moore and Anthony & Sam Freedman’s early market mover Place Du Carrosel ($5.50) who is another international expat racing in Australia for the first time.
