2021 Turnbull Stakes Day: Flemington Scratchings & Track Report

Punters are in for a mouth-watering Group 1 clash on the Turnbull Stakes Day 2021 card today, Saturday October 2, and below we take a look at the full Flemington scratchings and track report ahead of the first.

The weather in Melbourne today is for continued showers following the heavy Friday rainfall meaning there could be a downgrade to the current Soft (6) Flemington track rating.

Flemington racing is set to get underway at 12:10pm with the Listed $1750,000 Maribyrnong Trial Stakes and the nine-race card continues through until the Listed $175,000 Paris Lane Stakes at 5:05pm.

There are six Group races across the afternoon starting with the three-year-old fillies facing off in Race 3 – the Group 2 $300,000 Edward Manifold Stakes (1610m) where Elusive Express is the favourite.

The ‘Straight Six’ specialists are next-up in Race 4 – the Group 2 $300,000 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) where confirmed The Everest runner Lost And Running (1) has been scratched in favour of a run in Sydney’s Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Randwick today.

A crucial Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes lead-up takes place in the form of Race 5 – the Group 2 $300,000 Danehill Stakes (1100m) and Mimosas (11) is out of the event dominated in betting at Ladbrokes.com.au by Ingratiating for Godolphin.

The older mares do battle in Race 6 – the Group 2 $300,000 Rose Of Kingston Stakes (1410m) – formerly the Blazer Stakes – with inaugural All-Star Mile winner Mystic Journey looking to return to her best form, while the widely-drawn Barbie’s Fox (16) has come out. 

The event all the punters are waiting for meanwhile is slated for Flemington Race 7 at 3:45pm when Peter Moody’s Melbourne Cup favourite Incentivise and Chris Waller’s nine-time Group 1 winning mare Verry Elleegant come head-to-head in the Group 1 $1 million Turnbull Stakes (2000m).

Colette has come out of the 2021 Turnbull Stakes field after failing her final vet check due to a foot abscess.

Following the marquee race, a Melbourne Cup bid could be calling for the winner of Race 8 – the Group 3 $750,000 The Bart Cummings (2520m) where Dashing Willoughby (17) is the notable withdrawal.
