The last Group 1 race of the season in Australia has opened right up with the top three fancies in Tattersall’s Tiara 2021 betting in Brisbane all drawing out wide for the Eagle Farm feature.

A capacity line-up of fillies and mares will do battle in this year’s Group 1 $600,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) and it is Michael Moroney’s Stradbroke Handicap winner Tofane heading the markets.
She, along with fellow Group 1 winners Savatiano and Odeum all suffered a slight blow in Wednesday’s Tattersall’s Tiara barrier draw coming up with gates 14, 16 and 15 respectively.
The wide alley has not deterred the punters however and the Tattersall’s Tiara betting markets remain led by Tofane at $5 through Ladbrokes.com.au.
The five-year-old Ocean Park mare was excellent at the same track and distance a fortnight back when beating a class field home at double-figures in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap.
She won Queensland’s richest race by a half-length from barrier 10 carrying 54.5kg with Craig Williams aboard.
Williams retains the ride on the weekend, but Tofane will need to be good going up to 57kg as she chases the Stradbroke – Tiara double last completed by Srikandi (2015).
The danger and early Tattersall’s Tiara market mover backed in from $7.50 to $5.50 is the Mick Price & Michael Kent Junior-trained Thousand Guineas winning filly from last spring Odeum.
Ace Sydney-based hoop James McDonald partners the talented Written Tycoon three-year-old from her wide gate, the bonny bay last seen running a quarter-length second in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1300m) at Eagle Farm on Stradbroke Day.
Odeum was brave in defeat first-up off a two-month break that run from a wide barrier (13 of 15) carrying 58kg and looks a genuine hope fitter for that run and coming down to 55.5kg at weight-for-age in the Tiara.
The only other runner at single-figure Tattersall’s Tiara odds paying $9 to return to winning form is the Godolphin-raced Savatiano prepared by James Cummings.
A six-year-old daughter of Street Cry, she was good in Sydney over the autumn winning the Group 2 Expressway Stakes, Group 1 Canterbury Stakes and running a devastatingly close second in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes.
Things didn’t work out for her in Brisbane in late May with Savatiano running ninth, still under two lengths beaten, in the Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) and she is after atonement here.
The Dane Ripper Stakes winner Brooklyn Hustle looks value at $11 in gate 12 to post her third win on the trot, while the Chris Waller-trained stablemates Subpoenaed ($10) and Nudge ($13) are the other best in betting.
Connections of the in-form Jason Warren & Dean Krongold-trained Brooklyn Hustle have opted for a local hoop in the Group 1 with Michael Cahill called up to ride the four-year-old.
The daughter of Starspangledbanner was ridden by Craig Williams in the Dane Ripper, with her other latest run seeing her win the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes in Adelaide on May 15 with the brilliant Jamie Kah in the saddle.
With Williams on the top elect Tofane and Kah unable to make the trip due to COVID-19 border restrictions, the Gold Coast-based Cahill looks a nice replacement.
“We went with some local knowledge,” Warren told Racenet.
“We are very happy, he knows his way around there.
“It makes a difference with her, we needed someone who is patient and has good hands so I think he is the man for the job.”
Waller chases his 16th Group 1 win of the season in the Tatt’s Tiara and also saddles-up value runner Madam Rouge ($18) who ran third in the Dane Ripper Stakes last start.
