Gimcrack Fillies Head 2021 Karrakatta Plate Field & Betting

The trio of fillies coming off the winning Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes trifecta last month headline the 2021 Karrakatta Plate field this weekend in the two-years-old feature at Ascot.

The action of the Perth Autumn Racing Carnival continues at the track on Saturday with the action topped by the juveniles doing battle in the Group 2 $500,000 Karrakatta Plate (1200m).

The half-a-million-dollar set weights sprint has been won by a host of very nice types over the years and features a capacity field of potential future stars this weekend.

Sitting top of the Karrakatta Plate betting markets at $5 through Ladbrokes.com.au is the David Harrison-trained Patronize filly Pat’s Got Sass.

After a nearly three length win on debut on March 10, she backed-up 10 days later in the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) to run third from a wide alley only 1.3 lengths beaten.

The Gimcrack Stakes has produced a number of recent Karrakatta Plate winners and the bookies are tipping the form to hold up again this weekend.

On Saturday Pat’s Got Sass is drawn for a soft run from barrier two with jockey Jason Whiting coming aboard for the ride where she presents fit third-up and ready to fire.

The Gimcrack Stakes winner Hoi An is at a generous quote of $9 in the Karrakatta Plate odds online following her awful barrier 17 draw.

A well-tried daughter of Longma, the Roy Rogers-trained Hoi An has run first or second in all four of her starts ahead of the weekend’s feature.

She is looking to complete the Gimcrack Stakes – Karrakatta Plate double for the first time since Whispering Brook (2016), but the carpark draw has hampered her chances and lengthened the odds on her to do so.

The other best out of the Gimcrack Stakes taking on the boys this weekend is the Daniel & Ben Pearce-trained runner-up Policiere also drawn wide in barrier 14.

Regular rider Joseph Azzopardi partners the $13 shot again third-up here as Policiere looks to return to winning from having won back-to-back races here with William Pike aboard in the summer.

The stable chase their second Karrakatta Plate win in three years following the victory of Dig Deep in 2019.

In an open Karrakatta Plate betting market this season there are two other single-figure hopefuls with Spin The Knife ($8) and Flying Missile ($9.50) for champion WA horseman Neville Parnham.

Snippetson gelding Spin The Knife was good on debut in mid-February overcoming barrier 14 of 14 to win over 100m at a blowout price before things went amiss last time out when he ran seventh in the Listed Supremacy Stakes down to the 1000m.

He looks better suited going up to the six furlongs here and has been kept fit with a recent winning hit-out at Belmont.

Parnham won the race back in 2008 with Brava Fortune and is out to break the drought in 2021 with progressive Cable Bay filly Flying Missile coming off a big win as the odds-on favourite in a maiden’s race on March 24.
