2020 Sheraco Stakes Field & Odds Update: Fasika Clear Favourite

Despite drawing a capacity field of class female gallopers, the Sheraco Stakes 2020 betting markets for Saturday at Rosehill are dominated by just the one mare – Fasika.

The penultimate event on Sydney’s Run To The Rose Day program, this season’s Group 2 $200,000 Schweppes Sheraco Stakes (1200m) field features the full 16 starters plus emergencies.

Only three of those are currently at single-figures to win in Sheraco Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au including the dominant top elect Fasika at $2.50 and firming.

Drawn ideally mid-field with Brenton Avdulla aboard first-up, Joe Pride’s resuming So You Think mare chases her first victory since the Group 3 Wenona Girl (1200m) at Randwick back in early March.

Her last start produced a good third behind Tofane in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) on April 18 and the bookies are tipping that form to hold on the weekend.

Fasika has been brought on fitness wise with back-to-back Warwick Farm trial wins, the latest on September 3, and she’s a proven first-up performer (3:2-1-0).

While yet to win at the Rosehill track, she kicks off her spring over her pet distance (5:3-2-0) and looks ready to fire fresh over the six furlongs.

The dangers occupying the second and third lines of betting respectively in the Golden Pendant lead-up are the also resuming Chris Waller-trained Haut Brion Her ($7.50) and John Thompson’s in-form Sweet Deal ($9).

Waller has dominated the Sheraco Stakes results over the past six years with three wins thanks to the double by Catkins (2014-15) and 2018 success of Invincibella.

The master horseman returns with three runners this season led by the ultra-consistent Zouster mare Haut Brion Her.

Chris Waller is after his fourth Sheraco Stakes win in seven years

The gun five-year-old has had just eight starts to date for an excellent strike-rate of five wins and three seconds.

She is a brilliant performer at the distance (5:3-2-0) and has won her only other Rosehill assignment to date back in August last year.

The query however is how she will present after a lengthy spell, Haut Brion Her last seen winning the Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) at Flemington in October last year.

She has trialled twice this season with back-to-back August wins at Warwick Farm and Rosehill respectively, so looks a chance to return in the same hot form she went out in.

Fiesta ($51) and Subpoenaed ($18) round out the Waller contingent.

Sweet Deal meanwhile boasts the fitness edge on Saturday having won the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1100m) first-up at Randwick three weeks ago.

She was excellent there carrying 59kg to victory and is a strong second-up performer (6:1-4-0), plus has a wonderful record at Rosehill (7:3-0-1).

The Casino Prince six-year-old comes back notably in weight, but the concern is the extreme outside alley in a big field for her to overcome.

Mizzy at $10 looks value with the Anthony Cummings-trained daughter of Zoustar chasing back-to-back wins in the event.

She was on fire this time last year stringing together a number of wins including in this and then the Group 2 Golden Pendant (1400m) next start.

Mizzy went on to catch the eye running third in both the Silver Eagle and $7.5 million Golden Eagle, the latter at 40/1, and races for the first time since on Saturday.

In gate four with a good record fresh, Mizzy looks a big chance of a successful title defence at double-figures.

The other notable hopes in the Sheraco this season include early market mover Adelong ($16 into $10) and the Godolphin-raced Flit ($17) drawn the second outside alley.
