Humidor and Kementari fight for favouritism in 2018 Makybe Diva Stakes betting

Humidor and Kementari fought out the finish in the Memsie Stakes a fortnight again and are doing battle again for favouritism for the Group 1 $750,000 PFD Food Services Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday.

The Darren Weir trained Humidor finished hard from back in the field to nail Kementari right on the line to get the judge’s decision by a nose in the Group 1 $1m New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield and there is nothing between them again in the betting for the Makybe Diva Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au.

The money has started to arrive for Humidor who had firmed from $4.40 to $3.90 early on Friday afternoon but eased back to $4 while the James Cummings trained Kementari has firmed in from $4.60 to $4.

The Weir trained Kings Will Dream who finished third in the Memsie Stakes, is also in the mix at $4.40 while the stablemates Black Heart Bart ($26) and Tosen Basil ($34) are two of the outsiders in the twelve horse Makybe Diva Stakes field.

Humidor has drawn the rails with Damian Lane in the saddle again while Kementari will need Craig William’s magic after drawing awkwardly at barrier eight.

Cummings has given a glowing report about Kementari following his narrow defeat in the Memsie Strakes and the Lonhro stallion galloped strongly at Flemington on Tuesday morning.

“He’s the fittest he’s been this campaign and his work on Tuesday morning “reflected that,” Cummings said.

“His gallop on the course proper at Flemington was what I wanted to see, he’s tightened up nicely,” the trainer said.

“He picked up nicely from the six furlongs and was full of running on the line, suggesting to me that he’s coped well with his very impressive Memsie Stakes run.

“Since the Caulfield race he’s been really bright and he looks confident stepping up to the mile.”
