2017 Star Kingdom Stakes Field & Odds: Top Three Hard to Split

Three smart autumn sprinters are battling for favouritism in the latest Star Kingdom Stakes 2017 odds for the Rosehill Gardens clash on The BMW Day this Saturday in Sydney.

 Danish Twist

Scheduled to jump as Rosehill Race 2 at 1:00pm (AEDT), this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m) field features just the nine short-distance gallopers.

Equal at $4 in the current Star Kingdom Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au are Danish Twist and Impending drawn alongside each other in barriers seven and eight respectively.

Kris Lees saddles-up smart Dane Shadow mare Danish Twist this weekend, the five-year-old chasing her first win since June of last year.

She’s been competitive this season however including the very close third when only a quarter-length off the winner Heavens Above at Rosehill a fortnight ago in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m).

Danish Twist is down in class this weekend and a likely Heavy track will turn the 1200m race into something a bit longer, which will suit, as she goes up three kilos to 57.5kg.

On 56kg with James Doyle riding is the John O’Shea-trained Impending who races third-up for the season.

The smart young Lonhro colt is a three-year-old taking on the older sprinters again after his brave fourth to Le Romain on a Heavy (10) Randwick track on March 4 in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).

He will relish his return to Rosehill where he boasts a great record of two wins and two thirds from four runs.

One of those thirds was behind Astern in last September’s Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m), which he backed-up from to win the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (15600m) at the track before his Caulfield Guineas fourth.

The big market mover and other best following the favourites closely in the Star Kingdom Stakes odds is Jungle Edge backed in from $7.50 to $4.80.

The wetter the better for this fellow who surprised quite a few last weekend.

Mick Bell’s Dubawi six-year-old led the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) field around at Rosehill and was only run down late by the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained duo of Russian Revolution and Redzel.

He held for the brave Group 1 third beaten only a quarter length and connections plan to take advantage of another bog track this weekend with an easier and very winnable assignment for the mudlark.

Also at single-figures in Star Kingdom Stakes betting are Dal Cielo ($6) who is another of the three Lees-trained runners in the field and Artistry ($8.50) for Team Snowden.

Per Incanto four-year-old Dal Cielo won his two season openers over 1000m, before running seventh when outclassed in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) earlier in the month.

The form of Artistry stacks up better, the Shamardal mare coming off a Group 3 Maurice McCarten Stakes (1100m) win at Rosehill a fortnight ago.

She gives the weight away on Saturday going up from 55kg to 58kg as the Star Kingdom Stakes top weight, but has a solid second-up record and will appreciate going up to 1200m here at her pet track.
