A quality field of fillies and mares will face off at Eagle Farm Racecourse on Saturday in the 2016 Just Now Handicap.

Due to run as Eagle Farm Race 8 at 4:48pm (local time) as the penultimate event on the extended Brisbane race card, this year’s $100,000 Listed Canadian Club Just Now Handicap (1300m) features a line-up of 13 hopefuls.

Heading the Just Now Quality field and weights with 58kg is the Chris Anderson-trained Elegant Composure.

Larry Cassidy is booked to replace Jim Byrne – who rides to rival Ra Ra Epic from gate 12 – in the saddle of the Bradbury’s Luck mare who chases successive black-type victories at the track.

Lightly raced for her age the five-year-old enjoyed her seventh career success at start number nine on November 26 with a one length win in the Listed Colin McAlpine Memorial Classic (1200m).

She rises in distance and weight this weekend and while the metres are a non-issue, the step-up from 55.5kg to 58kg will test the local mare.

The next heaviest weighted hopefuls with 57.5kg are the Steven O’Dea-trained Beatniks and Peter & Paul Snowden’s Sydney visitor Ravi.

Beatniks jumps from gate 10 with Jeff Lloyd aboard second-up taking over for Paul Hammersley aboard the six-year-old Haradasun mare.

She caught the eye first-up when third to Elegant Composure beaten under two lengths in the Colin McAlpine a fortnight ago.

Going up two kilos she meets her last start conqueror better in the weights this time around and has strong form over the distance with two wins, a second and a third from four runs.

Ravi is drawn midfield in gate six and Kerrin McEvoy is in Brisbane for the ride.

He has ridden the Redoute’s Choice four-year-old for eight of her 10 career runs including her latest three over the spring.

Her latest run was a fifth behind Flippant in the Listed MSS Security Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day where she had a wide alley (12) to overcome.

Ravi has since won a Randwick trial defeating Ecuador and looks a livewire chance at the metres to take out her debut Queensland assignment.

The rails run meanwhile belongs to fellow Sydney raider, the Gerald Ryan-trained Girl Sunday.

The four-year-old daughter of Encosta De Lago has won four of her nine runs to date including back-to-back runs at home around this distance during November.

The latest was in a Benchmark 78 over 1400m at Rosehill on November 19 carrying 56kg to the narrow success.

Girl Sunday is well weighted this weekend on 55.5kg and will get things her way from barrier one at the roomy Eagle Farm track.

Also coming off a last start victory in Sydney at Rosehill Gardens is the Matthew Dunn-trained Falvelon four-year-old Madotti.

She won over 1200m two weeks ago first-up carting a hefty 60kg to victory.

This weekend the classy mare drops back notably in weight to 55.5kg and has Tye Angland continuing his associations.

The Just Now Handicap will be Madotti’s second run at Eagle Farm after she failed to fire at the track back in late June.

She went on however to have three runs at Doomben including a second over 1200m and so has form in the Sunshine State.

Other notable hopes include the well-drawn Noel Mayfield-Smith-trained Unequivocal in gate four with Michael Rodd to ride, and John & Chris Meagher’s smart local hope Cruising Speed who is two-from-four at the track and three-from-four at the distance coming off a fourth in the Colin McAlpine.
