Twelve sprinters remain in contention for Saturday’s Listed Daybreak Lover Stakes (1400m) following the scratching of leading contender Takedown; offering punters particularly good value from a betting perspective.
Kimberley Star has been backed into outright $3.40 favouritism in 2016 Daybreak Lover Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Sold For Song ($4.40) and The Virginian ($6).
Will Kimberley Star return to winning form in the Daybreak Lover Stakes this weekend, or will one of her classy rivals handle the likely heavy going and post an upset?
Purchased for only $2,500, Sold For Song has already amassed more than $130,000 in prize money and is positioned well for further success in the Daybreak Lover Stakes in barrier 1. Debuting to racing for success in a Sunshine Coast minor over 1000m in November, the Collate filly progressed to second in the Mittys Handicap (1110m) before making a perfect transition to black type company for success in the Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m) at Doomben. Resuming this time for second in each of the Listed Mick Dittman Plate (1000m) and Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m), Sold For Song was completely luckless in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m) a fortnight ago but should relish a step back in class this weekend.
Kimberley Star is yet to make an appearance during the 2016 Brisbane Winter Carnival, but carries good form into the race and is positioned well in barrier 8 with James McDonald in the saddle. Stamping herself as a filly to following through a strong spring campaign, the Star Witness filly resumed this year for fourth in the Listed Fireball Stakes (1100m) before placing a close second in the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m) on March 24th. While failing to fire in the Listed South Pacific (1400m) on Day 2 of The Championships, Kimberley Star ran on well for third in the Scone Guineas (1400m) on May 14th and her class is sure to count for a lot on Saturday.
Consistent local Blueberry Hill is yet to find peak condition this time, but is arguably offered her best chance of a return to strong form in the Daybreak Lover Stakes. Winning the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) and finishing second in each of the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial (1200m) and Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) most notably through last year’s Winter Carnival, the Myboycharlie filly is drawn ideally in barrier 6 this weekend and will be partnered by leading local hoop Damian Browne.
