Tonight, Friday March 18, the Alister Clark Stakes 2016 is the feature race at Moonee Valley Racecourse and below you’ll find the insider Races.com.au tips on the three-years-old set weights showdown.

Due to jump as Moonee Valley Race 6 at 9:15pm (AEDT), this year’s $200,000 Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m) originally attracted a final field of 11 runners.
The early scratching of the Peter Moody-trained Cool Chap (11) who drew the outside alley leaves 10 in the mix, the odds-on favourite of which is Palentino paying $1.75 in the latest Alister Clark Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Darren Weir’s Teofilo colt won the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) over the mile at Flemington and is up over further than that distance for the first time this evening.
He is followed in Alister Clark Stakes betting by just one other hope under $10 for the win with the flying John O’Shea-trained Tally.
A son of Street Cry, Tally has won three from three this time in including the Group 2 Autumn Classic (1800m) at Caulfield three weeks back in his first black-type win of the season.
He is proven at Moonee Valley and was also far from disgraced at the track and distance last Cox Plate Day when fifth to Jamkea in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m) back in October.
The next best fancied to score the upset Alister Clark Stakes result tonight are the early market mover Charlevoix ($11) in a nice barrier three draw for his third career start and the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Flying Light ($12) coming off an Autumn Classic second.
So will Palentino salute for the Alister Clark Stakes punters or is there value further down the markets this Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival from the likes of the rails-drawn Patch Adams ($17) coming off a fourth in the Autumn Classic from the same barrier or War Legend ($17) who has been heavily backed over the past 24 hours?
1st
#1 Palentino ($1.75)
This Group 1 winner is odds-on for a reason and looks very hard to beat. He should have won his Australian Guineas lead-up after being first past the post before losing the CS Hayes on protest, so is really shooting for three on the trot. He hasn’t seen the distance yet but looks like he’ll handle further after doing it tough from barrier 15 of 15 last time out. This is an easier field and if he shows up he wins.
2nd
#2 Tally ($4)
The bookies look to have the order of odds right with Tally coming off a trio of wins this time in. Craig Williams jumps on the colt again after guiding him to a smart one and three-quarter length victory in the Group 2 at Caulfield last start. He has winning form at the Valley and has been tested over the 2040m before without being disgraced.
3rd
#8 Top Ravine ($19)
Plenty of livewire hopes to fill the minor placing and Top Ravine is drawn nicely in barrier two. It’s a small enough field for Mick Price’s Redoute’s Choice colt to stay out of trouble and finish in the money again after his third in the Autumn Classic from the outside alley (12). He won over 1800m at Sandown-Hillside before that so has the ability to finish close.
