The last of the quartet of Group 1 races headlining the bumper Victoria Derby Day program at Flemington on Saturday is the Myer Classic 2015 for fillies and mares, the exclusive Races.com.au team’s two-word form guide on the mile showdown found below.
A field of 15 face off in this year’s $500,000 Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m), the weight-for-age clash due to jump as Flemington Race 8 at 4:35pm (AEST) as the penultimate event on an all-black type card.
Narrowly leading the latest Myer Classic odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, who are offering Best Tote or SP + 20% on the full Flemington card on Saturday, is the sole three-year-old in the mix Stay With Me ($4.50).
The in-form and improving David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained daughter of Street Cry comes off the win in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) over this distance at Caulfield, but has a lot of work to do to go back-to-back in elite level company this prep.
She is drawn the outside alley for her clash against the older mares on Derby Day and is looking to become the first ever Myer Classic winner in history to do so as a three-year-old.
Hot on her heels in Myer Classic betting is the market mover Royal Descent ($4.60) looking to hand Sydney’s premier trainer Chris Waller with another Group 1 win by a mare after the scintillating Cox Plate victory of stablemate Winx last Saturday.
Royal Descent has the winning hoop in that classic Hugh Bowman aboard taking over for Glen Boss who was in the saddle of the Group 1 winning six-year-old when she was thrashed crossing dead last after leading early in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) last time out.
The money is coming for her to atone when dropped right back in distance to the 1600m where from nine previous starts she has run seven seconds and two thirds.
Also at single figures for this season’s Myer Classic win is Azkadellia ($8.50) in barrier six and coming off four top two runs from as many starts this prep.
The Ciaron Maher-trained Shinko King four-year-old’s last start was only on Cox Plate Day seven days ago at Moonee Valley where she was defeated the barest of margins in the Group 3 Teiso Stakes (1600m), her second look at the distance she’s over again this weekend.
