Blue Door Explodes to Everest Contention with Dominant Heritage Stakes Triumph at Rosehill
Outstanding filly Blue Door has thrust herself into the conversation for a coveted slot in the 2026 The Everest after producing a breathtaking display of speed to capture Saturday’s Group 3 $250,000 Heritage Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens.
The Bjorn Baker-trained daughter of Stay Inside justified her status as the $1.85 favourite, leading throughout under Nash Rawiller before accelerating clear to score by an emphatic 2¼ lengths over Ciaron’s Star ($8), with outsider Outspan ($41) a further length away in third.
Stopping the clock in a slick 1:02.64 and reeling off a blistering 33.37-second final 600m, Blue Door once again showcased the raw speed that has quickly established her among the most exciting three-year-olds in training.
The victory was her second black-type success from just four career starts and followed consecutive runner-up finishes in The Rosebud and San Domenico Stakes, further enhancing a rapidly growing résumé that now boasts earnings in excess of $360,000.
Everest Dreams Emerge
Baker wasted little time floating an ambitious tilt at the Group 1 $20 million The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 17, suggesting the lightly raced filly could add an intriguing dynamic to the world’s richest turf race.
“Looking at it, she’s a very fast filly and the form is working out extremely well,” he said after the race.
“It’s lovely to see John Singleton’s colours winning. This filly is pretty special to him and I’m very lucky to train a very good, very fast filly.”
Baker then turned his attention to the possibility of an Everest campaign.
“I’ll tell you what, weight-for-age and no weight, there’s a race in three weeks,” he said.
“Singo, are you there? I’d really like to take her to The Everest if you’re keen.
“We’ll just see what happens, but she would add a real dynamic to the race.”
The Warwick Farm horseman believes Blue Door’s natural speed makes her a genuine contender despite being a three-year-old filly taking on older sprinters.
“She’s a fast filly. She had to carry more weight today, she has natural gate speed, she paraded great and she’s a filly on the rise,” Baker said.
“She set up track-record speed last time and if you get them chasing her it could be a completely different story.”
Rawiller Compares Filly to More Joyous
Winning jockey Rawiller was equally effusive in his praise, declaring Blue Door one of the most naturally gifted speed horses he has partnered in recent seasons.
“She’s gifted, isn’t she? She’s just explosive,” he said.
The veteran hoop revealed the key to Blue Door lies in managing her abundance of natural speed.
“It’s just harnessing it. She’s probably too quick for her own good,” he explained.
“It’s not very often you pull up and think, gee, this reminds me of a smaller version of More Joyous. Whether it’s the colours or the way she moves, she’s exciting.”
Rawiller said the filly made the task look easy despite sustaining a strong tempo throughout.
“That’s her. She makes it look easy,” he added.
“Even though she makes it look easy, it’s a speed you can’t keep running, but she did a very good job today. She travelled well and was really solid right to the line.”
Rivals Acknowledge Blue Door’s Class
Runner-up jockey Zac Lloyd could only applaud the winner after Ciaron’s Star chased gamely into second first-up.
“Super effort. She was first-up and she’s run into a good filly who was third-up,” Lloyd said.
“She’ll build off that nicely.”
Meanwhile, Tommy Berry was encouraged by the performance of third-placed Outspan, indicating the colt would be better suited stepping back up in distance after handling the drop to 1100m admirably.
Spring Plans Now in Focus
Blue Door’s latest victory continues a remarkable start to her career. After winning the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes on debut, she has now produced four consecutive top-two finishes while consistently competing against high-quality opposition.
With The Everest 2026 now firmly on the radar and her explosive speed proving a major weapon, connections face an exciting decision over the coming weeks.
Whether she ultimately gains a slot in the $20 million sprint or takes a more traditional three-year-old path, one thing became abundantly clear at Rosehill on Saturday: Blue Door is a rising sprint star with a huge future ahead of her.
Three horses are currently confirmed for the 12-horse The Everest field with the defending Hong Kong champion Ka Ying Rising already odds-on at $1.35 through Ladbrokes to go back-to-back.
Ninja ($21) and Headwall ($21) are the other horses locked in.
Blue Door is currently paying The Everest 2026 odds of $51 at Ladbrokes.
