Sacred Eye Wins Ladbrokes Caulfield Classic

Talented filly Sacred Eye has stamped herself as a leading contender for this 2015 Crown Oaks at Caulfield this afternoon; mustering a huge late turn of foot to beat a talented field to the line in the Group 3 Ladbrokes Caulfield Classic (2000m).

Jumping from the gates well, jockey Damien Lane allowed Sacred Eye to stride forward and take a position on the heels of early leader Ayers Rock, who injected a noticeably quick tempo into the race over the back straight and approaching the bend.

Pulling the filly back into the pack of eleven and receiving and ideal run in transit, Sacred Eye was offered a clear racing line upon arriving at the final straight and immediately responded when asked for an extra effort; charging forward to overcome a brave Lizard Island for maiden black type success.

Lane delivered a gem of a ride aboard Sacred Eye for success in the 2015 Caulfield Classic, but was disappointed for good mate and regular hoop Michael Walker who missed the race through suspension.

“She’s a beautiful filly,” Lane said after the race.

“Michael Walker is my best mate and it takes the wind out of the sails a bit that he was meant to ride her but he said during the week she’d be bloody hard to beat.

“I’ve only ridden her track work and she’s always been a nice, kind filly but the way she surged to the front she really flattened out nice and Michael’s going to have a very nice Oaks ride.”

Co-trainer David Hayes was pleased with Sacred Eye’s win in the Ladbrokes Caulfield Stakes and confirmed it is full steam ahead to the 2015 Crown Oaks in early November.

“She’s a star and the longer she goes, the better she’ll be,” Hayes said.

“It made it a bit easier watching Damien ride her so beautifully today. When he peeled out at the 600m three-wide I knew he thought he had them covered.

“Michael Walker’s been saying she’s been stargazing and probably would have won her last two.

“If we feel she’s keen-winded and pulled up well we might go straight in (Crown Oaks).”

In taking out the 2015 Caulfield Classic, Sacred Eye has not posted two wins and two second place finishes through only four starts.
