There are nine female gallopers making up the field for Saturday’s $125,000 Group 3 Irresistible Pools Sheraco Stakes (1200m), due to jump as Rosehill Race 5 at 3:05pm (AEST).
Leading the latest Sheraco Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au at an odds-on quote of $1.90 is the classy Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Bounding who is also the market mover.
Drawn in gate four with Brenton Avdulla booked for the ride on the always honest Lonhro five-year-old, Bounding shoots for back-to-back wins this time in after taking out the Group 3 The Heath 1100 at Caulfield first-up on August 29.
She’s gets her first look at Rosehill on Saturday but is over her pet distance that she has had nine previous runs over for four wins and four seconds.
Following Bounding in the Sheraco Stakes odds this spring are just two other single figure hopes with Chris Waller’s defending champion Catkins ($4) and Peeping ($8.50) drawn nicely in barrier two and coming off a win over the track and distance in mid-August.
Can Bounding get the job done for the punters as the odds-on favourite or will there be an upset Sheraco Stakes result on Saturday afternoon from one of her longer priced rivals such as Jason Coyle’s Group 3 winner last time out back in April Slightly Sweet ($14)?
1st
#2 Catkins ($4)
Waller’s grey six-year-old is all class and won this race first-up last Sydney Spring Racing Carnival. She went on to have a stellar campaign including the Group 1 Myer Classic third in Melbourne and will be out to start things off on the same high this season. She’s a gun at Rosehill (14-8-3-1), the distance is ideal (10-6-2-0) and her record at the track and distance is imposing (7-3-2-0). She also flies first-up (8-6-1-0) so is really hard to go past even with an odds-on favourite in the mix.
2nd
#1 Bounding ($1.90)
Team Snowden’s five-year-old is deserving favourite but the odds-on price is a bit of a danger. She comes off a first-up win and also has a solid second-up record (5-2-2-0) she is looking to add to here. This is her maiden Rosehill run however, her last start in Sydney being in April last year when runner-up in Group 2 company. She’ll give the reigning Sheraco Stakes winner Catkins a run for her money and has finished out of the top two just once in her 15 starts to date.
3rd
#6 Fine Mist ($15)
Plenty of ones to sift through for third but nice value being offered for the Bede Murray-trained Good Journey four-year-old Fine Mist who is first-up after a second in the Listed Denise Joy Stakes (1100m) at Scone in mid-May. This is an obvious rise in class but she was only two lengths off Avoid Lightning in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Randwick in April and has winning form at Rosehill.
