Eighteen talented runners have been included in nominations for Saturday’s Listed Daybreak Lover Stakes (1800m) on the Gold Coast, highlighted by the likely appearance of some of the Brisbane Winter Carnival’s standout three-year-olds.
Bachman returned to competitive form in his most recent appearance on course a fortnight ago and arguably leads 2015 Daybreak Lover Stakes nominations.
Securing two wins and a further four minors through 13 career starts, Bachman appeared to have found great condition when running on for third in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) on May 9th, but failed to figure when 13th in the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes (2020m) on May 23rd.
Having finished a close second to Jabali in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) a fortnight ago, trainer Gerald Ryan is confident a step-up to 1800m and step back in class will see Bachman return to the winner’s circle in the 2015 Daybreak Lover Stakes.
Rhodin Drive has steadily built to the task over his most recent appearances at the races and should relish a return to three-year-old company in the 2015 Daybreak Lover Stakes.
Running sixth in the Group3 Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) on May 16th, the son of Reset also failed to get the distance when ninth in the Grand Prix Stakes but ran on for a credible third in the TL Clooney Handicap (1350m) last weekend.
A Gold Coast local, trainer Helen Page is confident Rhodin Drive’s proven knowledge of the course will be the key to success in the 2015 Daybreak Lover Stakes.
Yulong Baby was unlucky to be blocked for a run rounding onto the final straight in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) three weeks ago but has performed at her best in events around the 1800m mark.
Running a credible fourth in a Seymour minor over 1400m first-up on April 15th, the Commands filly finished second in the Neville Wilson Final BM70 (1700m) on May 7th before arriving in Queensland for fourth in the Group 2 The Roses (2000m).
Classy local Court’s Star will undoubtedly face his greatest test to date in the 2015 Daybreak Lover Stakes but has more than earned a shot at black type success having taken out his two most recent starts with ease.
Running fourth in the Cordner Taylor Accountants Maiden (1200m) on the Gold Coast first-up on May 9th, the Court Command gelding won the Basset Barks Handicap (1600m) on May 24th before hitting the line close to four lengths in the clear of his closest rivals in an Ipswich race over 1710m on June 4th.
The 2015 Daybreak Lover Stakes final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
