Rank outsider The Inventor has produced a career-best performance at Eagle Farm this afternoon, leading from start to finish to claim the Group 3 Tattersall’s Cup (2200m) ahead of Wish Come True and Pretty Pins; clear favourite Tinto unable to match the late pace.
Jumping from the gates well, jockey Tegan Harrison lead the Danasinga gelding immediately to the front, setting a fair tempo with fellow competitors Shotover River, Wish Come True and Denwood when passing the post the first time.
Continuing to set the pace over the back straight and rounding the final bend, The Inventor spooled up upon finding the final straight, maintaining a strong sprint to finish a head in the green.
Trainer Bevan Laming has geared The Inventor towards an appearance in the Listed Queensland Cup (3200m) in two weeks’ time, and was understandably pleased with his final competitive appearance on track prior to that goal.
“If you go through the times he was one second slower than the horse that won the cup but his sectionals were faster than hers, so I thought if we could run that today at our terms we’d have a chance,” Laming said.
Confident the gelding out of Inventions had the skill to win the Tattersall’s Cup, Laming credited the win to in-form hoop Tegan Harrison.
“I was one of the first to give her rides in town and she comes out and rides work, so you have to reward hard working people. She’s a thinker.”
Harrison delivered an exceptional ride on The Inventor in the 2014 Tattersall’s Cup, continuing a stand-out season which has also delivered positive results at Group 1 level.
“He’s in great form and fortunately for me Michael (Cahill) jumped off today,” Harrison said after the Tattersall’s Cup.
“I’ve been doing the work on the horse out at Bevan’s farm so stoked I got a win on him.
“The horse comes through his last start outstanding, it’s like he didn’t go round.
“I remembered Michael said to me about the horse a long time ago he’s very lazy but I spoke to him before we went in and he said at least now he travels, and he certainly does.”
