Moody Aims Newbie Proisir at 2013 Spring Carnival Sprints

Victoria’s premier trainer Peter Moody has welcomed new stable acquisition Proisir with open arms excited about their Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival 2013 prospects.

Moody is the new trainer of the Group 1 performing Choisir colt, the rising four-year-old previously prepared by Sydney’s Gai Waterhouse.

Proisir has been tested at elite level three times, the first on the back of a six length Group 3 Newcastle Spring Stakes (1600m) success last September when they were just beaten by It’s A Dundeel, current favourite for the 2013 Cox Plate, in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m).

From there they went to the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) as one of a host of top three-year-olds but could only manage to finish eighth to New Zealand’s Ocean Park.

After a four month spell Proisir returned at Rosehill in March and was third to their then stablemate Pierro in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) in the mud, after which they were only half a length off It’s A Dundeel again this time in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m).

That run on March 16 was their last of the autumn however with a tendon injury forcing them onto the sidelines.

During their latest break Proisir was transferred to Moody who has decided to target the spring sprints and not step them up to the same distances they’ve been racing over during their three-year-old season.

“Prosir will be aimed at the sprints towards to the back of the Spring,” Moody confirmed.

“He’s still in the very early stages of his preparation.

“He won’t be ready for anything early and we’re looking to aim him for around October/November.”

Possible features for the $475,000 earner include the $1 million Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on October 25 during the Cox Plate Carnival and then Flemington’s $1 million Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) on Emirates Stakes Day in November.
