Zavite Earns Crack at 2011 The BMW

Zavite & Descarado

Ravet Stakes winner Zavite (Inside) is set to firm in the 2011 The BMW odds

Anthony Cumming’s veteran Zabeel eight-year-old Zavite has earned a crack at $2.25 million Group 1 The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill on Golden Slipper Day, April 2 after an upset win in the Ranvet Stakes today.

Coming off a distant 12th to Danleigh in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m), Zavite was ultra impressive this afternoon claiming a gritty half-head win over Descarado in the $400,000 Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill.

Saluting in a Group 1 as a $101 roughie, Zavite continued a brilliant day for Anthony Cummings who also prepared the upset winner Smart Missile who beat home Sepoy in the Todman Stakes.

Zavite has now had 60 career starts, his Ranvet success just his 11th win to date and second Group 1 victory as he also won the Auckland Cup last March.

In 2009 Zavite won the Group 3 Launceston Cup (2400m) and Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) back-to-back during the autumn before finishing dead last in that year’s The BMW beaten over 17 lengths by winner Fiumicino.

Then in the spring of 2009 Cummings paid up for Zavite to run in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m), but he could only manage to finish a distant 19th behind Melbourne Cup winner Shocking.

In last year’s Melbourne Cup Zavite was even less impressive, crossing over 47 lengths away 22nd to winner Americain.

Back in the winners stall today, Cummings is now prepared to give Zavite another shot at The BMW Stakes.

Before today’s victory Zavite was well down in The BMW betting odds at Luxbet sitting at a quote of around $50.

His price is set to firm right in now as he beat home a number of the early The BMW favourites.

Last year’s Melbourne Cup runner-up Maluckyday was the $2.90 top pick in The BMW odds at Luxbet followed by Descarado at a quote of $7.

Zavite beat home both of these rivals in the Ranvet, Descarado coming in second while Maluckyday crossed for fourth.

Futures betting on The BMW Stakes has been briefly suspended.

Now is the ideal time to sign up with premier bookmaker Luxbet and be the first to enjoy the best odds on the $2.25 million showdown when markets reopen shortly.
