Under The Eiffel charges into today’s 2011 D’Urban Stakes on CF Orr Stakes Day at Caulfield as a raging hot favourite. Trainer Tony Vasil has been just as surprised as anyone at how quickly the gelding has taken to his return to the track.
The three-year-old has had only the four starts but his record is almost perfect with three wins and a second place finish. The second place was on his inaugural run in Bendigo and he was only beaten by a nose.
The gelding was spelled for more than a year after breaking a shoulder during just his second start. However after his two come back performances nobody is in any doubt as to the quality of this horse.
In current Luxbet odds for the Durban Stakes, Under The Eiffel is paying just over $2 on the fixed price markets.
While there is plenty of excitement surrounding this horse, and it’s certainly warranted, winning today’s race is no certainty. A quality field has been assembled for the D’Urban Stakes and Under The Eiffel will face a big charge from a number of contenders, especially the classy Eclair Mystic.
If the gelding can retain his current winning streak though he will instantly come into contention for the Australian Guineas, even though he has not yet nominated.
“He hadn’t raced for more than 12 months and wasn’t even up to trial stage when entries closed for the Guineas so we had no gauge on how good he was.
“The boys who own him are more than happy to pay the late entry ($41,250) if it is warranted,” Vasil said.
It’s going to be an electric race but Under The Eiffel has shown all the form to suggest he will walk away with the Durban Stakes title. It is a prime opportunity to take advantage of a $400 free bet from Luxbet. Unlike other bookmakers, even if Under The Eiffel drops below $2 you can still use your free bet for a better chance of increasing your cash!
