While the premier weekend racing action will be taking place in Perth and Brisbane this Saturday, December 11, South Australia’s Allan Scott Park at Morphettville is also hosting a quality day of races headlined by the $80,000 Listed City of Marion Stakes (1200m).
The 2010 City of Marion Stakes final field features 16 top sprinters with the Wayne Nichols-trained Diplomatic Force the top-weight with 57.5kg.
Having run an eye-catching third in the Listed Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m) during the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival last year, Diplomatic Force is resuming after a lengthy 11 month spell.
Previous Melbourne Cup winning trainer Mark Kavanagh has two of his horse lining up in the City of Marion Stakes this year with Outlandish Lad (barrier seven) and Rock The Moment (barrier 10) both lightweight chances carrying 53.5kg each.
Four-year-old Rock Of Gibraltar mare Rock The Moment has been super consistent over her 11 race career producing six wins and a second.
Rock The Moment is coming off back-to-back wins in Adelaide and despite her wider barrier 10 draw is likely to start one of the favourites in the betting markets.
Drawn well in barrier five, Anabaa’s Legacy is another horse with claims here, the consistent three-year-old Anabaa filly having won her last start in a 1200m handicap at Moonee Valley on November 20.
Other notable runners in the City of Matron Stakes this year include seven-year-old gelding Magical Pearl, Darwin Cup winner Shout Out Loud and Mick Price’s More Than Ready mare About Ready.
Caulfield-based trainer Price also has Orbiting Belle running on Saturday, the four-year-old mare drawn ideally in barrier two, coming off a win here against her own company last weekend and a top chance dropping back in the weights from 58kg last start to just 53kg making her one of our favourites to win.
The 2010 City of Marion Stakes is scheduled as Race 7 at Morphettville on Saturday.
Betting on the race will open at bookmakers shortly, so be prepared to get the best odds possible on this race and all the other events lighting up tracks around the country this weekend by opening an account with our preferred online bookmaker Luxbet now!
