Peter Moody’s brilliant mare Black Caviar made a stunning return to racing in Race 4 at Caulfield today, storming home to claim an emphatic victory in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1000m).
Coming back from injury having broken down in January after her win in the Australian Stakes, Black Caviar ($1.75 favourite) made it six from six today racing away to defeat gallant outsider Winter King ($26) by an easy one and a quarter lengths with General Truce ($31) a further two and a quarter lengths away third.
Black Caviar, ridden by Luke Nolen, got away very well and took to the lead, pulling away on the straight and opening up to have three lengths over the field at one stage.
Maintaining her unbeaten record, Black Caviar finished just seven tenths outside of the race record in the Schillaci, back good as ever.
The punters and fans are now anticipating her clash with powerhouse sprinter Hay List later in the spring.
The next race to jump at Caulfield today the first Group 1 showdown at the meeting – Race 5 the Yalumba Stakes at 2:20pm (AEDST).
