The racing and excitement of the Perth Carnival continues this weekend with the 32nd running of the $125 000 Group 3 A.J. Scahill Stakes (1400m) at Ascot.
Fancied runner Grand Nirvana trained by Fred Kersley has drawn ideally with barrier one. Kersley also has Innovation entered in the nine-horse field starting beside their stablemate in barrier two.
The Neville Parnham-trained Elliotto (br. 4) will be attempting a return to winning form, the Peters Stakes winner finishing a lacklustre seventh last start in the Group 1 Railway Stakes. Parnham’s other chance at AJ Scahill Success lies in Tarzi (br. 3) who placed 13th in last week’s Kingston Town Classic.
Other quality races held at Ascot on Saturday including the 96th running of the historic $100 000 WA St Leger (2100m) and the Listed Starstruck Classic (1600m). Headline entries in the WA St Leger include last week’s Kingston Town runner-up God Has Spoken and Thorn Dancer.
The Group 3 A.J. Scahill Stakes is scheduled as race six on Ascot’s cracker eight-race programme for Saturday.
