Winx opened as short as $1.09 to enjoy her fifteenth successive turf triumph second-up at Royal Randwick in the $600,000 Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) this Saturday in Sydney.

A slight drift in the Chipping Norton Stakes odds through Ladbrokes.com.au saw her get out to a “value” price of $1.14 before the Street Cry five-year-old firmed back into $1.12.

It’s an historical short price in Chipping Norton Stakes betting making the dual Cox Plate winner the hottest favourite in the weight-for-age autumn feature in over 50 years.

The world’s best turf horse drew ideally in barrier four for her Chipping Norton Stakes title defence after her arrogant first-up Apollo Stakes victory.

Jockey Hugh Bowman believes Winx is a good thing in the Chipping Norton Stakes and the punters agree.

The only other horse in the ten-starter Chipping Norton Stakes field under $10 for the win is the John O’Shea-trained Hartnell ($8) who has faced Winx five times to date for five losses.

Brenton Avdulla comes aboard the multiple Group 1 winning Godolphin galloper and knows only bad luck will see Winx beaten and the winning streak end.

O’Shea agrees, already conceding defeat ahead of Saturday’s mile showdown after Hartnell drew the outside barrier (10).

“No, I never thought we could [beat Winx], especially not at a mile,” he told The Daily Telegraph.

“She’s a champion and Hartnell’s just a really good horse.”

Waller lines-up six hopefuls in the race and the other best in Chipping Norton Stakes betting is the imported Endless Drama ($16) who comes off a first-up Apollo Stakes third.

There has also been a tickle for $41 roughie Tavago, backed in from opening odds of $51 to score one of racing’s biggest upsets.

Tommy Berry is booked to ride the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Tavistock four-year-old, winner of the Group 1 ATC Derby (2400m) defeating subsequent Caulfield Cup winning mare Jameka at Randwick last April.

Tavago has had two starts since his Group 1 win over the mile and a half for two disappointing spring runs including a dead last (10^th) behind Black Heart Bart last time out in late September’s Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield.

He has been in the paddock recovering and is ready to return this weekend facing a very tough assignment.

Libran ($61) is the only other runner under triple-figures, Waller’s Sydney Cup runner-up set to hit his peak later in the autumn getting out over more distance.
