He’s Our Rokkii Leads 2016 Toorak Handicap Betting Odds

The Lindsay Park-trained in-form Kiwi import He’s Our Rokkii is the current favourite heading the Toorak Handicap 2016 betting markets for the Group 1 at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday.

Four Group 1 races headline the Melbourne racing action on Caulfield Guineas Day including the $500,000 Group 1 IG Markets Toorak Handicap (1600m) running as the penultimate event on the 10-race card.

A final field of 13 milers face off in this year’s Toorak Handicap including the David & Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained four-year-old Roc De Cambes gelding He’s Our Rokkii.

The gun galloper chases his fifth straight win after his Group 3 double at Randwick back in April and his two Caulfield handicap wins over 1400m this campaign.

His latest two runs were in non-Black Type company, but the bookies are taking no chances with the progressive horse who has plenty of form at the track (3-2-1-0) and up over a mile (7-2-2-0).

Drawn the rails with barrier one, which hasn’t produced a Toorak Handicap winner since Caledonian Boy (1987), He’s Our Rokkii pays $4 in the latest markets at Ladbrokes.com.au and has Dwayne Dunn retaining the ride.

In an open top half of the Toorak Handicap betting markets this season a further four runners are under double-figures for the win including the flying Ciaron Maher-trained Bon Aurum ($6) and Tosen Stardom ($6.50) for Darren Weir.

Four-year-old Bon Hoffa stallion Bon Aurum put the writing on the wall at Caulfield a fortnight ago with a smart win in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m).

He rises notably up from 52kg that run to 56kg on the weekend chasing back-to-back Group 1s, but is still well fancied to complete a double last achieved just two years ago by Trust In A Gust (2014).

Trust In A Gust was the first of two Toorak Handicap winners for Weir in as many years after the success of Lucky Hussler (2015) 12 months ago and this year the master Victorian horseman is back with Japanese import Tosen Stardom and Royal Rapture ($8.50).

Tosen Stardom jumps from a wide barrier 12 draw with Craig Williams chasing his second win in the race after the victory on Barley A Moment (2005), while Royal Rapture is also at single-figures and firming.

The super-consistent seven-year-old has won his latest five starts in easier company and faces a tough rise in class on the weekend from barrier five with Mark Zahra in the saddle.

At $9 and rounding out the single-figure fancies in the Toorak Handicap markets is the Chris Waller-trained Counterattack drawn in gate eight with James McDonald travelling from Sydney for the ride.

A four-year-old son of Redoute’s Choice, Counterattack is after his first win since the victory over Takedown in Brisbane’s Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m) back in May.

His latest run was in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes when beaten under three lengths running sixth, and he only goes up a half-kilo to 54.5kg so looks well weighted this weekend stepping up to the mile.

The best of the double-figure fancies include early market mover Thames Court ($17 into $11) who ran fourth in the Sir Rupert Clarke in a brave effort from David Brideoake’s Commands mare, the Michael Moroney-trained High Chaparral four-year-old Tivaci ($13), recent Dato’ Tan Chin Nam winner at Moonee Valley Awesome Rock ($15) and Shannon Stakes winner in Sydney a fortnight back over 1500m Moral Victory ($15).
