2016 San Domenico Stakes Tips and Betting Preview

Only six three-year-olds will contest the featured Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, but the depth of talent confirmed undoubtedly underlines the race at one of the weekend’s most highly-anticipated events.

Boom colt Capitalist will make his highly-anticipated return to racing in the San Domenico Stakes and remains a clear $1.80 favourite with Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Star Turn ($3.50) and Tango Rain ($5).

Will Capitalist return to racing in the best way possible and win the San Domenico Stakes, or will one of his talented rivals post the day’s big upset?

1st

Capitalist ($1.80)

Capitalist has only tasted defeat once in his racing career so far, is the Golden Slipper champion and should simply prove too classy for the small San Domenico Stakes field on Saturday. Returning to the paddock after winning the Gold Coast Magic Millions 2.y.o Classic (1200m) in only his third career start on January 9th, Capitalist clearly required a run when second in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) upon resuming in autumn but responded with a dominant win in the Golden Slipper. Capitalist is drawn ideally in barrier 4 with regular hoop Blake Shinn in the saddle, but has been charged with carrying a race-high 60kgs.

2nd

Tango Rain ($5)

Exciting colt Tango Rain is yet to taste defeat through his short racing career so far, and arguably offers punters the best value for money at San Domenico Stakes odds of $5 for success or $2.15 to place. Taking out the Tab.com.au Maiden Plate (1100m) with ease on debut on June 22nd, the Manhattan Rain colt repeated the dose in the 70th Birthday Martin King Handicap (1200m) on July 23rd, beating to the line subsequent stakes winner Thronum. Kerrin McEvoy will take the ride on Tango Rain, who take four kilograms from Capitalist at a weighting of 56kgs.

3rd

Mount Panorama ($14)

Consistent colt Mount Panorama will make his competitive return in the San Domenico Stakes and undoubtedly has the class to be right in the finish of the feature race. Beginning his career under the guidance of Team Hawkes, the Sebring gelding ran third in the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) upon resuming on January 30th; progressing to third in the Group 2 Silver Slipper (1100m) before ending his autumn campaign third in the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m). Mount Panorama will have his first start for Gary Moore in the San Domenico Stakes and has trialled well leading in.
