2016 The BMW Betting Odds & Tips

The biggest race on the Rosehill Gardens card this Easter Saturday in Sydney is the weight-for-age The BMW 2016, betting odds and exclusive tips for the staying showdown found below.

Mongolian Khan

Caulfield Cup winner over the distance in the spring Mongolian Khan is the Races.com.au tip to win Saturday’s 2016 The BMW in Sydney. Photo: Ultimate Racing Photos.

Set to run as Rosehill Race 7 at 4:30pm (AEDT), this season’s $1.5 million Group 1 The BMW (2400m) features a field of 10 runners led in betting at Ladbrokes.com.au by the Chris Waller-trained Preferment ($3.10).

The four-year-old Zabeel stallion won the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) on protest in Melbourne a fortnight back and shoots for his first win from three runs at Rosehill this weekend.

Third-up he looks set to peak, and with winning form up to 2500m having won the Victoria Derby as a three-year-old, the distance looks a non-issue for this in-form galloper.

Preferment is also drawn ideally in barrier four for Hugh Bowman, a barrier that last produced a The BMW winner only two years ago in Silent Achiever (2014).

Second best in The BMW odds this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival at $4.60 is the Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained German import Our Ivanhowe.

During the spring this six-year-old stallion ran third in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) before a luckless Melbourne Cup 10th and is third-up on the weekend.

His latest run was a fifth in the Australian Cup beaten only 1.55 lengths that he is tipped to improve on getting back out to the mile and a half on the weekend.

A further three gallopers are also under $10 in the current The BMW betting markets with the reigning Caulfield Cup winner Mongolian Khan ($5.50), former Oaks winning mare Rising Romance ($9) with the rails run and the early market mover Who Shot Thebarman ($8.50).

So can Preferment be first past the post this time or is there an upset The BMW result on the agenda from one of his three stablemates in the race or even Anthony Cummings’ Rosehill Guineas runner-up from last Saturday Montaigne ($11)?

Our 2016 The BMW Trifecta Tip is #6 Mongolian Khan from #7 Preferment and #10 Montaigne

1st

#6 Mongolian Khan ($5.50)

Waller plays an imposing hand in this but we’re sticking with the Murray Baker-trained New Zealander with the Holy Roman Emperor four-year-old getting out over 2400m for the first time since his impressive Caulfield Cup win in the spring. He saw Rosehill last start in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) just last Saturday when fifth to The United States. He’s on the quick back-up, but that suited him last time in when improving on the Caulfield Stakes third to win the Cup seven days later. Second-up will be fitter and the Ranvet Stakes form has been the one to follow into The BMW in recent years producing six of the past eight winners.

2nd

#7 Preferment ($3.10)

It is hard to knock the lead-up form of Preferment, a proven stayer who deserved to be awarded the Australian Cup trophy. The trip is a non-issue and the gate (4) looks bang on for him three runs into his Autumn. He’s the best of Waller’s four in the mix and is a big hope, but just that tiny bit short to take for the win.

3rd

#10 Montaigne ($11)

Trainer Anthony Cummings prepared Fiveandahalfstar (2013) to win this race as a three-year-old a few years ago and is back with another in-form youngster in 2016. Montaigne isn’t as experienced as Fiveandahalfstar, winner of the Victoria Derby the previous year, but he was good when chasing home the Derby-bound Tarzino in the Rosehill Guineas last weekend. He’s up over more distance than that for the first time here and gets every chance to see it out from barrier 2 carrying 54kg at WFA with Damien Oliver aboard.
