Seaburge Heads 2016 VRC Sires’ Produce Field & Betting

The David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Seaburge is early favourite of the two-year-olds engaged to face off in the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes 2016 field at Flemington Racecourse this Saturday in Melbourne.

Super Saturday’ is host to a bumper nine-race program, the second of the black-types being the $200,000 Group 2 MSS Security Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

Just the nine two-year-olds are in the mix this Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival, early VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au led by Seaburge ($3.60) who is set to get the inside run from barrier one.

Top local jockey Mark Zahra continues his association on the son of Sebring who won on debut over 1200m at Pakenham on January 21 before a last start second at Sandown-Hillside over 1300m on February 24.

Winner of that race Revolving Door is close second favourite in the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes odds paying $3.80 to go back-to-back.

He has drawn barrier five with Hugh Bowman jumping aboard the fellow Sebring colt prepared by Caulfield’s Clinton McDonald.

Occupying the third line of betting is then the market mover Hot Dipped backed in from $6.50 to $4.40 to keep her undefeated record in check.

The Tasmanian visitor has won three from three at Launceston back home in the Apple Isle for Broadmarsh horseman Brendan McShane, form the Written Tycoon filly is looking to bring to Melbourne on Saturday.

Her latest victory was in the Listed Gold Sovereign Stakes (1200m) in late February, which she blitzed by two and a half lengths.

Jockey Ibrahim Gundogdu, who rode Hot Dipped for her previous eight length romp on February 17 over 1220m, is in Victoria this weekend for the Group 2 ride.

In a wide open market two other youngsters are also under $10 in betting with the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Detective ($6) and Power Trip ($8).

Detective was among the first acceptances taken for the Group 1 ATC Inglis’ Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) in Sydney on April 2 during ‘The Championships’ and is out to break his maiden status four runs in.

The perennial runner-up has had three starts for three seconds including behind Gai Waterhouse’s subsequent upset Group 2 Todman Stakes winner Kiss And Make Up over 1200m at Canterbury on February 17.

Golden Slipper Stakes-bound Kiss And Make Up scored the boilover in the Todman defeating Team Snowden’s odds-on favourite Capitalist by over two lengths ahead of the world’s richest race for two-year-olds on March 19, which bodes well for Detective in Melbourne in the VRC Sires’ Produce.

Power Trip meanwhile is trained by John McArdle at Mornington, the son of Hard Spun having his fifth start on Saturday shooting for his first win since a successful debut last November in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) down the Flemington straight.

His latest start was in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield a fortnight ago when fourth to now Golden Slipper favourite Extreme Choice.

Other notable hopes include the Tony McEvoy-trained black-type winner Jackson ($10) who Damien Oliver rides from barrier two and Mick Price’s Northern Meteor colt Battle Order ($19) one wider in gate three.
