A final field of 12 is engaged for this year’s $250,000 Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m), the mile feature running as Moonee Valley Race 7 at 4:05pm (AEST).

There’s an odds-on favourite in Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival with the returning Contributer backed in from $1.90 to $1.75 to win first-up.

John O’Shea’s dual Group 1 winning stallion was last seen taking out the Ranvet Stakes in Sydney, and while his last Melbourne run was a failed eighth in the Emirates over the Flemington mile, the bookies are taking no chances with this 2015 Cox Plate fancy.

The two other single figure fancies in the latest Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes odds out to upset the Godolphin galloper are last start P.B. Lawrence Stakes winning veteran Mourinho ($6.50) and brave runner-up in the same race The Cleaner ($6.50) from Tassie.

So will the first three in betting be the first three over the line or is there an upset Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes result on the agenda this weekend?

Our 2015 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes Trifecta Tip is #5 The Cleaner from #4 Contributer and #7 Dibayani

1st

#5 The Cleaner ($6.50)

Despite the rumours this Mick Burles-trained Savoire Vivre eight-year-old from the Apple Isle was cooked after a testing autumn highlighted by an Australian Cup fourth, 50-start warhorse The Cleaner charged to the front and looked the leader until the final stride when Mourinho just nosed him out of the win. He’ll be fitter for the run, thrives at Moonee Valley (7-4-1-1) and the step up to a mile is also an advantage. Track specialist in a gun gate second-up, ticking lots of boxes.

2nd

#4 Contributer ($1.75)

This star six-year-old is the deserving favourite, but the firming odds-on price is just a tad short to take for the win with some genuine threats. Yet to race at the Valley and the circuit is notoriously tight so he’ll need to handle that. He does fly fresh however having won five of his previous six first-up assignments, so that will work in his favour with fitness a non-issue. Nice inside alley in barrier two with Dwayne Dunn aboard, if he gets luck and doesn’t get stuck will be the one to catch.

3rd

#7 Dibayani ($13)

Adding a bit a value looking a tad further down the markets, this David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Hong Kong expat debuted down under on August 15 and caught the eye with a close third in the Lawrence Stakes, which could prove the formline to follow in the Dato’. First go at the track obviously, but two thirds from four 1600m runs suggests this son of Shamardal is a genuine place chance with improvement expected from what he did first-up.
