Fiorente

The other Group 1 on the Coolmore Classic Day program at Rosehill Racecourse this Saturday is of course the stayers’ showdown, the Ranvet Stakes 2014 – tips and form selections for which are listed below.

Rosehill Race 8 at 4:40pm (AEST), the $500,000 Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) threatens to steal the Coolmore Classic’s limelight as it is shaping up as a clash of the 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes favourites.

Heading the Ranvet Stakes betting markets and field is Gai Waterhouse’s Melbourne Cup – Australian Cup double champion Fiorente in gate four with Damien Oliver aboard once again.

This ace import hasn’t put a hoof wrong over the past six or so months, and while they may be a rising seven-year-old they’ve only had the 18 starts so doesn’t look like they’ll be slowing down anytime soon.

That sentiment is reflected in their price in the Ranvet Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, Fiorente at a firm $2.60 to add another Group 1 to the cabinet.

Of course there’s another star in this race who is also heading towards the $4 million Randwick feature next month, and that’s the Murray Baker-trained It’s A Dundeel.

They’re at $3.20 in the standard Ranvet Stakes betting markets, but punters at Ladbrokes.com.au can lock them in at a special offer of $4*.

Special Ladbrokes.com.au Ranvet Stakes offer: Get It’s A Dundeel for $4! Top odds on a top horse for new bets up to $50!

The High Chaparral four-year-old first burst onto the scene in the spring of 2012 with four wins on the trot down under, most notably the Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick.

They’ve since added another four Group 1s to their record (Randwick Guineas, Rosehill Guineas, Australian Derby, Underwood Stakes) proving a genuine staying superstar.

Resumed on March 8 at Warwick Farm but were defeated by Boban when runner-up in the Chipping Norton over the mile.

Will improve on that second-up getting more distance here and are a genuine threat at a good price.

So is there anything threatening outside of this dominant duo? Not really.

The next best in betting are all at double figures including Australian Cup third placegetter Foreteller ($10), another Chris Waller-trained Group 1 performer Hawkspur ($11) and Waterhouse’s other runner Carlton House ($11).

But who is the Races.com.au team’s money on?

We’re sticking with the top two in our 2014 Ranvet Stakes Quinella selection and have #1 Fiorente to defeat #2 It’s A Dundeel

1st

#1 Fiorente ($2.60)

The horse is in ace form, Waterhouse is in ace form, they’re the deserving favourite and we’re sticking with them. Should get a gun run from barrier four, has plenty left in the tank despite their recent efforts. Did the Australian Cup without too much trying, this could be tougher, but they’re a class act and nothing suggests that’ll stop here.

2nd

#2 It’s A Dundeel ($3.20)

Think the bookies have this one spot on and so we’re sticking with the second favourite to run second. They’ve come via a different lead-up to the favourite but they will be flying in their second run of the autumn after losing few fans in the Chipping Norton. Up in distance is the key here so watch out for a strong finish, they’ll come for Fiorente and it should be an entertaining battle to the finish line.

3rd

#8 Silent Achiever ($13)

Like this other New Zealander and what they’ve been doing back home, winning form they’re looking to bring across the Tasman for the autumn. Punters seem a little wary, and understandable too with some other genuine hopes in the mix. Roger James’ O’Reilly mare however caught the eye at Ellerslie earlier in the month winning the Group 1 NZ Stakes (2000m) so ready for another Group 1 over the distance this time in Sydney. Haven’t raced here in a year when fourth in the Queen Elizabeth but had top form that carnival including a The BMW second. Also ran fifth in the Ranvet behind Foreteller (back defending their title) but think they’ll do better this time with a softer lead-up .

To get behind your Ranvet Stakes favourites and take advantage of Ladbrokes.com.au’s special It’s A Dundeel offer, head to the website now and place your bets with the bookie offering you an EFTPOS card for your winnings!
