There are no surprises from the bookies in this Saturday’s Ranvet Stakes 2014 odds, Gai Waterhouse’s star stayer Fiorente heading the markets for the Rosehill showdown just ahead of five-time Group 1 champ It’s A Dundeel.

The duo are top two in betting for not only the $500,000 Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) this weekend, but also one of the most anticipated autumn features – the $4 million Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick on Sydney Cup Day (April 19).

There’s been no faulting the form of Waterhouse’s ace import Fiorente who handed the lady of racing with her maiden Melbourne Cup trophy last spring.

The six-year-old Monsun stallion then came back and proved their Cup triumph was no fluke winning the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) on February 22.

From there they made history as the eighth Melbourne Cup – Australian Cup double winner taking out the latter 2000m feature at Flemington on March 8.

Now it’s all systems go for Saturday’s Ranvet Stakes where they have barrier four with Damien Oliver staying on, Fiorente paying $2.60 to win again and confirm their 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes favouritism.

Hot on their heels in the Ranvet Stakes odds meanwhile at $3.20 is the rails-drawn It’s A Dundeel.

The Murray Baker-trained New Zealander is on the improve this autumn after running second to Boban as the defeated favourite in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm a fortnight ago.

With five Group 1 trophies collected in Australia already from their 16 career starts, the hard-to-beat High Chaparral four-year-old is one of the best in the business and won’t be going down without a fight.

Their regular hoop James McDonald is aboard again here, It’s A Dundeel out to steal the show from the dual Cups’ champ before taking them on again in the Queen Elizabeth next month.

The last of the single figure Ranvet chances this year is then the Chris Waller-trained Foreteller ($9).

A rising eight-year-old son of Dansili, Foreteller continues to impress despite their age.

A gun spring including a Cox Plate fourth was marred by their failure to finish better than 17th in the Melbourne Cup.

This time in however they’ve been back to business with a CF Orr Stakes fourth, Peter Young fifth defeated just over a length and last start third when three quarters of a length off Fiorente in the Australian Cup.

Outside the top three it’s still a close affair.

For value in the exotics punters may want to take a closer look at Waller’s Queensland Derby champ Hawkspur ($11) coming off a third in the Chipping Norton, early market mover Carlton House ($11) also representing Waterhouse and the in-form Silent Achiever ($13).

Roger James’ New Zealand-trained O’reilly mare Silent Achiever has won both her starts back home this prep most recently taking out the Group 1 NZ Stakes (2000m) on March 8.

Last year she came via the Chipping Norton (4th) to run fifth in the Ranvet, an effort the subsequent The BMW runner-up will be out to improve on this year from barrier nine with Nash Rawiller aboard.
