With only a couple of hours left until this year’s 2013 Cox Plate winner is revealed in the last at Moonee Valley Racecourse, late mail tips on the weekend’s feature are in.

However Kavanagh is now putting all his pennies on Super Cool to get the job done in Atlantic Jewel’s absence, and there’s form and history suggesting that at their $21 price they are over the odds.

“I’m superstitious and I actually believe in history,” Kavanagh told The Courier Mail.

“History tells me my horse might muck around a bit in the spring time until he gets his act together and if I can get him right on the day, he will be pretty good.

“History tells me he’s 3-0 versus It’s A Dundeel.

“History tells me that no horse has ever won the Cox Plate third up off a spell.

“You can get a knock on every horse in the race if you look hard enough.

“I’m optimistic. I’m not saying mine’s the tip, but I think he’s the forgotten horse.”

Also in their favour is the fact Super Cool loves Moonee Valley having won two from four at the track.

Their last start here was a fourth to the Gai Waterhouse-trained Fiorente, $5.50 to win the Cox Plate today, in the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m).

They were only beaten half a length that day however, and with more distance they are back in it.

Super Cool is also the right age with four-year-olds boasting the boldest presence in the Cox Plate winners list, and even though they’re wide in barrier 13 there’s time to overcome the concerns with the gate.
